Kashmir Solidarity Day today
ISLAMABAD (APP) – People across Pakistan including Azad and Held Kashmir and other parts of the world shall celebrate Kashmir Solidarity Day on Friday (today) to renew the pledge for continued support to their brethren in Held Kashmir against the Indian atrocities.
Protest demonstrations and rallies would be staged in almost all cities and towns of country and Azad Kashmir with demand for cessation of Indian hostilities in the Held Valley and end to illegal occupation of the valley by India.
February 5 has been declared a public holiday by the government and the entire nation would reaffirm support to Kashmiris in the hour of trial and their fight against the Indian oppression. As a mark of respect to the valiant struggle of Kashmiris in Held Kashmir, one-minute silence would be observed bringing all rail and road traffic across the country to standstill.
A mega event on Kashmir Solidarity Day would be the ‘Human Chain’ to be formed at Kohala Bridge to convey to the world that people of Kashmir and Pakistan have deep-rooted sympathies with each other.
Special messages have been released by the countryÂ’s leadership including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and federal ministers, besides prime minister and president of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and all of them have reaffirmed moral, political and diplomatic support to the struggle of Kashmiri people.
Different political parties, civil society and trade organisations have planned to stage rallies to express solidarity with Kashmiri brethren and extend moral, political and diplomatic support.
Several newspapers would also bring out special supplements to highlight the cause of Kashmiris and radio and television channels would air special programmes to express their solidarity with Kashmir movement.
Stringent security measures have been adopted across the country for walks and functions to thwart any untoward incident and act of sabotage. Different seminars, conferences and meetings have also been scheduled in different parts of country and abroad to mark the day and renew pledge for right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people and remind the world to play their role in giving Kashmiris their just right.
Architect ‘should be held accountable’
ISLAMABAD (APP) – Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan, Judge of the Supreme Court, on Wednesday added his note to detailed judgement on National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).
The detailed verdict was announced on Tuesday which was authored by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry and contained two additional notes of Justice Ch Ejaz Ahmed and Justice Jawwad S Khawja while the third note was added on Wednesday.
Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan in his four-page note said that the maker of the Ordinance should also be brought to accountability. “What about the beneficiary who clearly confessed through the Ordinance that many accountability cases were politically motivated, politically indicted, and politically prolonged, obviously as a sword of Damocles,” he raised a question.
The Judge further writes that once the NRO 2007 is non est factum, all cases affected thereby will revive from the stage where each was interrupted at. “As it is a matter of national importance, it has to be taken care of.
For this purpose this Court has devised a mode of monitoring and also the creation of a monitoring cell.
This, but for the terminology used, is not unusual. I would prefer the mode adopted by the Court in normal course of action,” he referred to establishment of a Monitoring Cell in the Supreme Court to oversee progress on such cases.
Terming it an usual practice, Justice Raza says that many a time, in the given circumstances of a particular hearing before this Court, various instructions are issued to the executive authorities as well as judicial fora to act in a particular manner for just and expeditious disposal of matters pending before them.
