HTC Surround Borrows from Google Nexus One: iFixit Teardown
When the folks at repair site iFixit took a look inside the Windows Phone 7, running HTC Surround smartphone, they found a whole lot that reminded them of the HTC-made Google Nexus One. The phones share their motherboard design, as well as basically all the chips on it, and both phones address noise cancellation the same way. However, unique to the Surround, the iFixit team found, was a 16GB SanDisk microSD card& buried deep in the phone below some silver tape and two warning stickers& acting as the phones "internal memory." The media-driven phone has a hearty sliding mechanism for its speaker grille, and while tough to repair& earning it just a 5 on iFixits 10-point scale& Miroslav Djuric, iFixits director of technical communication, called it a "very solid, capable phone that will undoubtedly please its users." – …

Motorola Droid Bionic, Toshiba Tablet, HTC Inspire, Others Shown at CES
Motorola, Toshiba, HTC and other tech giants are using this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to debut their latest and greatest products. In what should prove a surprise to exactly nobody, many of those products are smartphones and tablets. While every company is offering something different with regard to software and hardware, some trends are definitely emerging: Many of the upcoming tablets, including the Motorola Xoom and Toshiba’s tablet, embrace Android 3.0. With regard to smartphones, manufacturers definitely have their eye on 4G networks.
If last year’s CES was all about e-readers for many companies, this one is all about tablets. Companies such as Research In Motion (with its PlayBook) hope to make a dent in the increasingly crowded space. Other tech stalwarts, though, seem more concerned with offering the latest devices in entirely different product lines, including connected TVs and in-car IT systems. HTC HD7 with Windows Phone 7: Sleek, Polished and Middle-of-the-Road
Microsoft hopes its Windows Phone 7 smartphones will allow it to reclaim market share in a mobile space currently dominated by the likes of Google Android and the Apple iPhone. In order to accomplish that goal, the company has teamed with manufacturing partners to produce a series of smartphones whose large touch screens and minimal buttons are heavily reminiscent of the iPhone or Droid X. But how does one of those flagship Windows Phone 7 devices, the HTC HD7, compare to those bestselling rivals? Windows Phone 7 is largely free of glitches, despite lacking certain key features such as cut-and-paste (expected in January), but it still feels like a first-generation operating system in need of a few tweaks and add-ons. The hardware is handsomely constructed, with no glaring errors. In short, the HTC HD7 is a device that most people would be happy to own& and yet nothing about the smartphone stands out in a way that would necessarily drive someone to purchase it in place of a similar Apple or Android device. – …
