Adobe Has Nothing to Fear from iPad and HTML5, Says Analyst

Adobe could maintain its strength as an online rich-media provider despite Apple excluding Flash support from its mobile devices and Google using HTML5 in YouTube, says a new analyst report from Jefferies Co. In a conversation with eWEEK, Adobe executives suggested that the ubiquity of Flash, and the porting of Flash Player 10.1 onto smartphones running Google Android and other mobile operating systems, will help it maintain a robust presence in the rich-media platform arena.

Google Voice Released as HTML5 Web App for iPhone

Google Jan. 26 rolled out a Web-based version of its popular Google Voice application for Apple’s iPhone several months after Apple rejected Google’s original submission to its App Store. The app will let Google Voice users do pretty much what they can do with the desktop version of the app, including listen to voice mail and read voice mail transcripts, send and receive text messages, and make inexpensive international calls. The Google Voice app represents a definite workaround to Google’s standoff with Apple’s App Store, which is incredibly strict if not inconsistent in its treatment of submissions.

Google Chrome Gets 30% Speed Bump, HTML5 Functionality

Google launches a new beta build for its Chrome Web browser. The latest application development measure includes 30 percent faster processing, introductory HTML5 support, a new New Tab page and Omnibox and, of course, the Chrome Themes everyone has been talking about this week. With 2.6 percent of the browser market, Chrome trails Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Apple’s Safari and Opera.
