23RD ANNUAL OLD SETTLER’S MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES INITIAL 2010 LINEUP

The four nights of the upcoming and much anticipated Old Settler’s Music Festival, which won an Austin360.com A-List readers poll, promise a bonanza of the acclaimed roots music that has delighted attendees and repeat attendees for 23 years, and will do so again this year. The Austin, TX festival is scheduled for Thursday, April 15, through Sunday, April 18.

Award-winning songwriter-producer-recording artist Joe Ely, a veteran of the road and live performance, headlines Friday. Folk-rock singer-songwriter Patty Griffin – whose duet with Dierks Bentley on his song “Beautiful World” has been nominated this year for a Grammy Award for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals and whose new album, Downtown Church, will be released January 26 – headlines with her band, including Buddy Miller, on Saturday.

Vanguard Records Americana artist Mindy Smith, award-winning banjo virtuoso and independent record label founder Alison Brown with Joe Craven, Alaskan bluegrass band Bearfoot, 7 Walkers featuring Bill Kreutzmann and Papa Mali, The Infamous Stringdusters, Fred Eaglesmith, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver are also among the more than 30 acts that are slated to perform on four stages at the Salt Lick Pavilion and Camp Ben McCulloch in the Texas Hill Country south of Austin.

Festival-goers can save as much as 30 percent over at-the-gate prices when they order early-bird wristbands by January 31 here.

Available are 4-day wristbands with campground access (Thursday-Sunday), 3-day wristbands with campground access (Friday-Sunday), 3-day no-camping wristbands and all-inclusive Platinum Passes. Children 12 and younger will be admitted free. Camping access is expected to sell out.

In 23 years, Old Settler’s Music Festival has delivered one of the best roots-music festival experiences in the United States with amazing performers including Joan Osborne, Iris Dement, Michelle Shocked, Bruce Hornsby, Yonder Mountain String Band, Nickel Creek, Alison Krauss, Bela Fleck, Rodney Crowell, Vassar Clements, Del McCoury Band, Kasey Chambers, and local favorites Ray Wylie Hubbard, The Belleville Outfit, Hayes Carll and Sarah Jarosz.

BEAR CREEK MUSIC AND ART FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES INITIAL LINEUP

The Bear Creek Music and Art Festival will return to The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Fl., November 12-14, 2010. The festival is proud to announce it’s 2010 initial artist lineup which includes Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Soulive, Lettuce, George Porter’s Runnin Pardners, The Will Bernard Band, Toubab Krewe, John Brown’s Body, Break Science and many more bands.

Artists at Large include Fred Wesley, Mike Dillon, Skerik, Kofi Burbridge and The Shady Horns.

ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES LINEUP FOR 3/26-27 IN MIAMI

Promoters for the Ultra Music Festival (UMF), the world’s leading two-day electronic and alternative music experience, have unveiled initial details of its highly anticipated lineup for the festival’s 12th annual installment. Set for Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 in downtown Miami as the official closing event of the 25th Anniversary Winter Music Conference, UMF will be the only place to experience a vast number of exclusive artist performances this year.

UMF 2010 boasts headlining appearances from Tiesto Friday, March 26 and Deadmau5 (making his first major festival appearance in 2010) and Groove Armada Saturday, March 27. Boston-based synth-popsters Passion Pit are also set for Ultra as well as Faithless Sound System and the Bloody Beetroots who will both make their U.S. live debut.

Carl Cox returns for the sixth consecutive year with his two-day mega tent; Armin Van Buuren, the world’s #1 DJ per DJ Magazine‘s annual readers poll, The Disco Biscuits, Ghostland Observatory, Bassnectar, Pretty Lights and Lotus will also appear. Additionally, UMF is mashing up dub step and drum & bass to create the very first Dub and Bass arena on the Saturday bill with a who’s who in both genres.

The groundbreaking Big Ears Festival – slated for the weekend of March 26-28, 2010 in Knoxville, TN – is excited to unveil the initial lineup for the upcoming year’s event. Building on the visionary programming of last year’s inaugural festival, the 2010 Big Ears expands with a remarkable lineup of even greater depth and breadth than its predecessor; with over 30 artists/bands expected to perform some 50 concerts in at least eight venues this year.

Visionary American minimalist composer Terry Riley has been confirmed as artist in residence. Celebrating his 75th birthday in 2010, several of Riley’s compositions will be performed throughout the weekend, including an all-star ensemble for his seminal “In C,” and performances by the composer himself.

Bryce Dessner, best known as guitarist for the acclaimed rock band The National, has signed on this year as a curator for the festival. He’s involved in selecting artists to perform during the weekend, commissioning new work, and conceiving of several unique programs.

The Inner Ear Weekend Festival Pass is on sale now. This limited edition pass offers premium access to all Big Ears happenings throughout the entire weekend (subject to available capacity) as well as exclusive invitations and access to select special events as well. Tickets for individual concerts and events will go on sale in early January. At that time, the schedule of events for the Big Ears weekend will be announced as well.

Launched in February of 2009, Big Ears was created as a forum to present the most exciting music of our time, while exploring connections and interfaces between music, visual art, and film. The brainchild of Ashley Capps, also known as the founder and co-producer of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, Big Ears was a great success, receiving rave reviews from audiences, artists, and critics alike and achieving immediate international recognition and acclaim.

Noise Pop Announce 2010 Dates, Initial Lineup

NOISE POP 2010 DATES AND INITIAL ARTIST LINEUP ANNOUNCED

Event producers, Noise Pop Industries, have announced the dates of the West Coast’s premiere celebration of independent music, film, and art – Noise Pop 2010. The 18th annual Noise Pop Festival will take place February 23 through March 1, 2010 at venues throughout San Francisco, CA.

Early artist confirmations include Magnetic Fields, Mark Kozelek, Rogue Wave, Atlas Sound, The Soundtrack of Our Lives, Four Tet, John Vanderslice, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Wallpaper, Zee Avi, The Limousines, and Foreign Born. Additional shows will be announced in the coming weeks along with films, art shows, and more.

Industry Noise will take place on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco. Noise Pop’s mini-conference discusses independent music, technology, and the changing industry. Musicians, independent labels, music bloggers, managers, and others involved in music shouldn’t miss this event. Attendees can meet industry pros, listen to influential speakers, advance their artistic and business ventures, and learn more about current possibilities and opportunities. In addition to panels and speakers, there are small discussion groups and individual mentoring. Panelists and keynote speakers will be announced soon. Industry Noise Badges go on sale Wednesday, December 9 for $65, or $50 along with the purchase of a full festival badge.

INITIAL LINEUP FOR 3rd ANNUAL DELFEST at ALLEGANY COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS, CUMBERLAND, MD

After much anticipation, bluegrass patriarch Del McCoury and WAMU’s Bluegrass Country’s Katy Daley announced the initial lineup for the 3rd Annual DelFest live on air this morning. They then proceeded to take calls from fans and play cuts from the Del McCoury Band’s new album, Family Circle, which hits stores today.

Along with the Del McCoury Band and Del’s sons’ spinoff, The Travelin’ McCourys, next year’s featured artists include Yonder Mountain String Band, The Avett Brothers, Keller Williams and Friends featuring Jeff Austin and Keith Moseley, David Grisman Bluegrass Experience, Railroad Earth, Dailey and Vincent and others (see below for full list). “While there will be many more acts added, we are proud to announce this first round of artists Â— many who are friends of ours,” says Ronnie McCoury of the announcement.

DelFest will be held Thursday, May 27 through Sunday, May 30, 2010 at the Allegany County Fairgrounds in Cumberland, MD (2.5 hrs from Baltimore and DC). It originated from the desire to create a family-friendly music festival celebrating the rich legacy of McCoury music while creating a forum for world-class musical collaborations and to showcase fresh new talent with a down-home feeling. Produced in association with High Sierra Music, the 3rd Annual DelFest will again offer a quality festival experience stamped with the unique McCoury touch. Personally chosen by Del, the Allegany County Fairgrounds in Cumberland, MD serves as the perfect location for DelFest. Nestled along the Potomac River in the scenic Appalachian Mountains, the Fairgrounds are convenient to four major airports and easily reached by rail or road.

In addition to traditional stage sets by these world-class artists, attendees can again expect to see one-of-a-kind collaborations, special guest sit-ins, various tributes to Del McCoury and his musical legacy, intimate appearances, both at unique “playshops” Â— informal workshops where the emphasis will be on performance rather than instruction Â— and in late night indoor performances and picking sessions. DelFest will also include a band competition, with the winners invited to return for a regular set at the following year’s gathering, and for the second year, DelFest will be immediately preceded by a 3-day Music Academy hosted by The Travelin’ McCourys, where all levels of musicians can learn from their heroes (the Academy will take place May 25, 26, and 27).

KSF achieves “Initial Operational Capability”

The Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) â€œhave achieved Initial Operational Capability,â€ KFOR has announced, the PriÅ¡tina press reports. The statement from KFOR HQ says that the decision on KSFâ€™s operational capacities was taken after Exercise Agile Lion, which, it was stated, was â€œthe culmination point of just over seven months of hard work by KFOR and the KSF to recruit, train and equip the force.â€œ

The 9th Annual Summer Meltdown is to be held at the Whitehorse Mountain Amphitheater in the scenic Cascade Mountain Foothills near Darrington, Washington from Friday to Sunday, August 14-16. Once again, this intimate, musician-friendly regional fest will be hosted and curated by Seattle’s Flowmotion, who based on their smoking hot set at The Fillmore last night are hitting on all cylinders right now.

The Summer Meltdown is a multi day grassroots music festival hosted by Terra Roots in collaboration with Flowmotion. Terra Roots is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization cultivating social connections and a sustainable future by supporting Northwest arts.
