Motorola Droid Bionic, Toshiba Tablet, HTC Inspire, Others Shown at CES

Motorola, Toshiba, HTC and other tech giants are using this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to debut their latest and greatest products. In what should prove a surprise to exactly nobody, many of those products are smartphones and tablets. While every company is offering something different with regard to software and hardware, some trends are definitely emerging: Many of the upcoming tablets, including the Motorola Xoom and Toshiba’s tablet, embrace Android 3.0. With regard to smartphones, manufacturers definitely have their eye on 4G networks.
If last year’s CES was all about e-readers for many companies, this one is all about tablets. Companies such as Research In Motion (with its PlayBook) hope to make a dent in the increasingly crowded space. Other tech stalwarts, though, seem more concerned with offering the latest devices in entirely different product lines, including connected TVs and in-car IT systems. 10 Smartphones That Failed to Inspire Buyers In 2010

The smartphone market is as interesting as it is crowded these days. Its crammed with devices designed for just about any customer on any budget looking for almost any feature they want. Plus, with so many smartphones available, customers on any carrier can readily find a suitable device that matches their desire. But the smartphone space is currently dominated by a handful of devices, led by Apples iPhone, the Motorola Droid X and the Motorola Droid 2. Most of the other phones currently available have failed to find the limelight as those major releases have cast huge shadows. SembMarine flat; $110m in orders fail to inspire

Sembcorp Marine (S51.SG) flat at $3.96 vs $3.99 high in early trade, hardly swayed by rig-builder’s latest $110 million ship repair, upgrading contracts, according to Dow Jones.

“The market is unlikely to get excited over the new contracts as the order value accounted for less than 3% of the total orderbook,” says DMG analyst Jason Saw; notes year-to-date orders nearly $1 billion, well below his $2.5 billion full-year forecast.
