Serbia could see freezing of integrations

Serbia’s Euro-Atlantoc integration could be frozen because of failure to arrest Madić and Hadžić, says EP’s Doris Pack. “I am convinced that Belgrade the the EU should start talks about Serbia’s European integrations. This process, along with the accession assistance (IPA) will facilitate continued reforms in Serbia,” said the German politician who heads the EP’s delegation for southeastern Europe.

Defense minister on hooligans, EU integrations

Serbia has not been combating bullies and hooligans the right way so far, Defense Minister Dragan Å utanovac told B92 in Belgrade on Thursday.

“The way for the state to combat violence is by implementing the law and imposing adequate and serious sentences,” he stressed.

Radicals urge end to EU integrations

The opposition Serbian Radical Party (SRS) called on the Serbian government on Thursday to give up on its EU integration bid. The EU, and the United Kingdom first and foremost, “has been brutally infringing on Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty”, the party said, and demanded that the government also halts negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), “which are adversely affecting the standard of living in Serbia”.

Deputy PM praises regional cooperation

Regional countries’ cooperation regarding the preparation of documents for EU accession is first-class, Deputy PM Božidar Đelić has stated. Đelić, who is in charge of European integrations in the current Serbian cabinet, said he believed that cooperation with the countries of the region on the road to the EU was excellent.

“Crisis will not slow EU integrations”

European Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele said that the current financial crisis in Greece will not slow down the EU integration of the Western Balkans.
Fuele said that Brussels was aware of the challenges and risks and was taking into consideration the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina and “relations between Serbia and Kosovo”.

Bulgarian FM: Serbia’s efforts recognized

Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolai Mladenov said that Serbia has made significant progress in its European integrations. After meeting with his Serbian counterpart Vuk Jeremić, Mladenov said that Bulgaria is a friend that understands Serbia’s difficulties and is ready to help.

EU commissioner on integrations and Kosovo

“EU integrations and Kosovo are separate issues, but bilateral matters should be solved in parallel with the EU integrations process,” says Stefan Fuele. The EU enlargement commissioner told Belgrade daily Politika in an interview that any country intent on joining the EU must “demonstrate that it has good relations with its neighbors, based on cooperation, tolerance, and mutual understanding”.

“We’re not paying for Europe with Kosovo”

Deputy PM Božidar Đelić says that recognizing Kosovo as independent and joining NATO are not conditions put before Serbia in order to become EU member. “Kosovo is neither a condition for Europe (joining EU), nor will Serbia ever accept for Kosovo to become a condition for Europe. European integrations and solving the status of Kosovo are two separate processes. That is the policy of Serbia, but also of the EU, which does not have a united position on Kosovo,” Đelić told Belgrade daily Večernje Novosti.

Jeremić, Ashton discuss integrations, Kosovo

Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić met on Friday in Belgrade with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton. After the meeting, Jeremić expressed the readiness of official Belgrade to continue to jointly work with Brussels on the EU accession of the West Balkans.

NATO backs peace, security, integrations in Kosovo

NATO will support all steps that strengthen peace and security in Kosovo, the alliance’s secretary general has been quoted as saying today. These steps, according to Anders Fogh Rasmussen, include integration of all communities into the Kosovo society, Beta news agency is reporting from Brussels.

“U.S. supports Balkans’ Euro-Atlantic integrations”

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Stuart Jones says that West Balkan countries could count on help from Washington. Jones stated that U.S. President Barack Obama’s administration was not pressuring any country, but that all countries that wanted to join Euro-Atlantic community could count on Washington’s wholehearted support and help.

PM “content with work of ministers”

Prime Minister Mirko Cvetković said that he is content with the work of his ministers and that there will be no reconstruction of the government. “I am evaluating the work of the ministers based on the level in which they achieved the basic goals of the government, and I can say that the government is successful, because progress has definitely been made, firstly in European integrations, which will be cemented in history,” said Cvetković.

Tadić, Klaus talk Serbia’s EU integrations

Serbian President Boris Tadić on Monday discussed Serbia’s European integrations with Czech President Vaclav Klaus. Tadić, who is taking part in the Party of European Socialists (PES) Congress in Prague today, had a telephone conversation with the Czech president, whose right-center party is not participating in the Congress, Tanjug learned at the Press Service of the Serbian president.

Belgrade hosts EU integrations conference

Belgrade is hosting a conference dedicated to EU integrations today, with the date for Serbia to apply for membership expected to be one of the topics. The gathering brought together representatives of regional parliamentary committees for EU integration.

Tadić: Mladić blocking integrations

President Boris Tadić said that the arrest of Hague fugitive Ratko Mladić is “a great obligation for the Serbian state and for its democracy”. He said that regardless of EU demands and the Hague Tribunal, Belgrade must arrest Mladić because “he is accused of war crimes according to domestic laws as well”.

Rehn expected in Belgrade on Wednesday

EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn will arrive in Belgrade on July 22 for a one-day visit. He will discusses Serbia’s European integrations with the country’s top-ranking officials, Tanjug learned at the European Commission Delegation in Belgrade on Monday.

Serbia’s EU integration council meets

The government’s Council for European Integrations met in Belgrade on Friday. The council’s first session this year, presided over by PM Mirko Cvetković, called on the EU to accept Serbia’s efforts in implementing the Interim Agreement when it decides on the country’s future membership application.
