Acer, Lenovo Asus Tap New Intel Chips for Ultrathin Laptops
Intel is looking to give the ultrathin laptop market a boost with the release of low-power processors that officials say will give OEMs new tools to work with when designing their thin and light notebooks. The new ultra low-voltage processors, which span Intel’s Core, Pentium and Celeron product lines, are built on the chip maker’s new 32-nanometer manufacturing process, and other a smaller size, greater performance and better energy consumption than current processors used in ultrathin laptops. They also offer such features as Hyper Threading, Turbo Boost and integrated graphics. Intel officials say about 40 laptops using the new chips are in the works, and a few from the likes of Acer, Asus, Gateway and MSI are ready to hit the market in June. – …
New Intel Low-Power Chips Aimed at Ultrathin Laptops
Intel is looking to boost the market for ultrathin consumer laptops with a new line of ultra low-voltage processors that touch on the Core, Pentium and Celeron product lines. Intel officials say 40 laptops based on the new chips are in the works, and said some from Acer, Asus, Gateway and MSI are ready to hit the market next month. – Intel is filling out its notebook offerings with ultra low-voltage processors that company officials hope will spark greater demand for ultrathin laptops.
Speaking on a video conference May 24, Mooley Eden, vice president and general manager of Intels PC Client Group, said ultrathin laptops have be…
Intel, AMD Push x86 Chips into High-End Server Market
AMD and Intel are rolling out high-end, high-performance x86 server chips. AMD shot first March 29 with its eight- to 12-core Opteron 6000 series previously code-named Magny-Cours which officials say will combine with the upcoming four- to six-core Opterons, code-named Lisbon, to offer businesses two platforms for the two-socket servers that make up the bulk of x86 systems sold. With high performance, memory bandwidth and capacity, and aggressive pricing, the series also will make it more palatable for businesses to adopt four-socket servers. For its part, Intel’s new eight-core Xeon 7500 series formerly code-named Nehalem EX offers performance, memory and RAS capabilities normally seen in higher-end RISC or mainframe systems, and will give businesses looking to move off their high-end Unix-based servers an x86 alternative, according to Intel officials.
