Oracle to Invest in Sun Hardware

Oracle will accelerate the investment in Sun’s SPARC and Solaris server and storage hardware, making it the foundation upon which to build the company’s tightly integrated technology stacks. During an event outlining the new road map for Sun products, Oracle officials said the company has plans for the next four generations of UltraSPARC processors, will invest in enhancing Solaris and will expand Sun’s T and M Series server lines.

China Huaneng to invest $400m in Tuas Power

China Huaneng Group plans to invest as much as $400 million in Singapore electricity generator Tuas Power to replace an oil-fired steam plant, the local press reported, citing Tuas Chief Executive Officer Lim Kong Puay.

Wilmar unit, others to invest US$3b in Indonesia sugar industry

Eleven firms, including a unit of palm oil giant Wilmar International (WLIL.SI), plan to invest a total of 27.5 trillion rupiah ($4.16 billion) in Indonesia’s sugar industry, a senior industry ministry official said today. 
The firms plan to develop 187,000 hectares of sugar cane plantations and build several sugar factories which will have total capacity to process 76,000 tonnes of cane per day, said Benny Wahyudi, director general of agro and chemical industries at the industry ministry.

Ljajić: Turkey ready to invest

Labor Minister Rasim Ljajić said that Turkey is ready to invest in Serbia and that relations between the two countries have “never been better”. Ljajić visited Turkey during the Christmas holiday period in Serbia to continue talks between the two countries started with the visit of Turkish President Abdullah Gul in October of last year, Belgrade daily Danas writes.

Yorkville to invest in Transcu life sciences firm

Singapore-listed life sciences firm Transcu Group (TRSU.SI) said on Thursday that Yorkville Advisors, a U.S. investment fund manager, planned to invest up to US$51.8 million ($72 million) in the company. 
 
Transcu had entered into a $72 million Equity Line Facility (ELF) with YA Global Master, a fund managed by Yorkville Advisors and the proceeds will help Transcu to accelerate its business expansion, Transcu said in a statement.

Roche to invest $100m in Singapore Center

Roche Holding AG, which last month opened a $500 million manufacturing plant in Singapore, will set up a research facility in the city-state, the local press reported.

The Swiss drugmaker will invest a further $100 million to conduct so-called translational research, including studies on how drugs designed in laboratories can better benefit patients, the Singapore-based newspaper said.

Through at least 2012, enterprises will invest more money in private cloud environments, as the public clouds, such as those offered by Amazon and Google, mature, according to Gartner. Eventually those private clouds will leave to greater use of public clouds, and then the creation of hybrid environments. Study: 94% of Enterprises Will Invest in Social Media Despite Recession

A survey of 400 companies found that 94 percent of enterprises plan to maintain or increase their investment in enterprise social media tools such as blogs, wikis and microblogging tools from providers such as IBM, MindTouch, Socialcast, Mzinga and Jive Software. The results seem counterintuitive in light of the recession, but it shows the importance of these tools for social networking and collaboration, and proves that they are not just a fad in the enterprise. Social analytics tools are also part of the trend.

Despite the nagging recession, a new study found that 94
percent of enterprises plan to maintain or increase their investment in enterprise

NEC, Juniper Invest in Blade Networks

NEC and Juniper are investing in Blade Network Technologies, which specializes in data center networking. The investments along with one by an unnamed tech company brings the value of Blade Networks to $230 million. The move comes a day after Juniper and Nokia Siemens announce a joint venture to offer a Carrier Ethernet solution. Networking vendors are looking for ways to gain traction at a time when market leader Cisco Systems is being hit by the global recession and also is expanding its reach in the data center.
