album, Darkness on the Edge of Town. Media contents are packaged within an 80-page notebook

lyrics, song ideas, recording details, and personal notes in addition to a new essay by Springsteen and never-

never-before-seen footage of Springsteen and the E Street Band shot between 1976 and 1978, including home
rehearsals and studio sessions, with new interviews with Springsteen, E Street Band members, manager Jon Landau,
former-manager Mike Appel, and others closely involved in the making of the record.

Darkness was my ‘samurai’ record,” Springsteen writes, “stripped to the frame and ready to rumbleÂ…But
the
music that got left behind was substantial.” For the first time, fans will have access to two discs containing a total of
21 previously-unreleased songs from the Darkness recording sessions, songs that, as Springsteen writes,
“perhaps could have/should have been released after Born To Run and before the collection of songs that
Darkness on the Edge of Town became.” The tracklist is available below.

As of right now, you can stream 15 of the 21 tracks over at NPR.com.

Sat Eye Candy: My Morning Jacket’s The Tennessee Fire

FIRST PART OF OUR LOOK BACK AT THE FIRST STEP IN MMJ’S JOURNEY

Next month My Morning Jacket has a five night stand at NYC’s Terminal 5, where they will perform each of their studio albums in its entirety [details here]. While the shows focused on their most recent work are long sold out, there remains a handful of tickets for opening night, Monday, October 18, when they will tackle their 1999 debut The Tennessee Fire (as well as a few tix for sophomore follow-up At Dawn on October 19). Likely the least explored chapter of MMJ’s rich catalog, The Tennessee Fire possesses a strikingly unique character few bands manage their first time at bat, and within it lay the rudiments of what this incredible band would grown into (not to mention some charms all its own which remain lodged in that particular time). Gut instinct says this is likely to be one of the more interesting installments in this run. Even though many songs remain in setlist circulation, this lineup has never tried to wrap itself around the entirety of this striking record, and what emerges should be another unique, memorable MMJ live experience. As an added bonus, JamBase faves Dungen open the Tennessee Fire show. Tickets are available here.

JamBase will be talking about MMJ’s debut at length next month with bassist Two Tone Tommy (or Tom Blankenship to those shunning nicknames). In the meantime, here’s an assortment of takes on tracks from The Tennessee Fire to highlight just how good this band was right out of the gate. (Dennis Cook)

And one for the openerÂ…

Umphrey’s McGee: The Tabernacle Documentary

THREE PART DOC FROM HYPER TALENTED LIGHTING DESIGNER DEBUTS TODAY

On February 6, 2010, Umphrey’s McGee took the stage at The Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA for a now legendary performance in front of a rabid sold out crowd. The energy in the historic room was so contagious that it created a palpable band-audience synergy, propelling the music to incredible heights. Luckily, the band’s HD video camera captured the show from the soundboard and now you can experience The Tabernacle, a short film directed by the band’s lighting designer Jefferson Waful, who has worked in television, radio, and print media for more than 20 years.

The 3-part documentary takes fans behind-the-scenes, in the dressing room and on stage during the night. Also included are musical highlights, in-depth interviews with the band and crew, and humorous outtakes that truly capture the band’s collective personality.

“It was one of the most magical and most energetic rooms and crowds that I’ve ever been a part of,” says bassist Ryan Stasik. “I could feel and hear the crowd and when that happens, I can’t really describe how that is, but it’s the most amazing thing in the world.”

The Tabernacle was released this afternoon.

Kenny Chesney Football Doc: The Boys of Fall

PREMIERES SUNDAY AUGUST 29 AT 2PM EST ON ESPN

This Sunday, August 29 at 2pm EDT, Kenny Chesney‘s 60-minute documentary on high school football Boys
of Fall
will premiere on ESPN. The focus is on the high school and to a lesser degree, college
football experiences, with emphasis not on the stars, but on those who don’t make it big. It depicts how for those
who do not go on to long, storied careers in the NFL, and the lessons learned on
the field help to shape who they are today.

Shooting began in fall 2009 as Chesney compiled football interviews and footage for the video for his new single
“The Boys of Fall,” from the new album Hemingway’s Whiskey out September 28 on BNA Records.
The film features interviews with New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, as well as interviews with stars
such as Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, John Madden, Tony Dungy, Bill
Parcells, Nick Saban, Mack Brown, Jim Tressel
and Bobby Bowden.

For a taste of the Boys of Fall documentary, watch the extended video for Chesney’s single “The Boys of

Elton John & Leon Russell: The Union Out 10/19

ALBUM FEATURES GUESTS NEIL YOUNG, BRIAN WILSON AND ROBERT RANDOLPH

Leon Russell

Direct Current is reporting that Elton John and Leon Russell have finished recording an album of new material. The
Union
is scheduled for an October 19 release on Decca Records. The album is produced by T Bone Burnett
and
features fifteen original songs written by the duo of Elton John and Bernie Taupin, together with Leon
Russell.

Taupin’s website states: “The trio has cut fifteen songs ranging from Stones-like rockers, country tinged ballads,
gospel and even a Sinatra like weepy similar to something torn from the grooves of ‘In the Wee Small Hours’. As
reported before it’s varied in scope and drenched in a rich tapestry of atmospherics. Don’t expect to hear the old
EJ/BT sound; this is organic recording unlike anything you’ve heard from our duo before.”

Says John via his website: “I can’t stress enough how significant an influence Leon Russell was on the music of Elton
John and Bernie Taupin. In 1970, when we first went to America and I played The Troubadour, we were obsessed by
Leon’s music, and looked up to him as some kind of musical god. On the second night of the Troubadour concerts
he was there in the front row, but luckily I didn’t spot him until near the end of the show, otherwise I would have
been a nervous wreck.”

The album features a stellar backing band of drummers Jim Keltner and Jay Bellerose,
Dennis Crouch on bass,
guitarist Marc Ribot and Keefus Ciancia on keyboards. Joining in on the fun will be guest spots
by Neil Young, Brian Wilson, Robert Randolph, and Booker T. Jones.

MODEST MOUSE CELEBRATE THE 10th ANNIVERSARY OF THE MOON & ANTARCTICA

WITH LONG AWAITED VINYL REISSUE OF LANDMARK ALBUM ON APRIL 17

Modest Mouse

Epic/Legacy Recordings will celebrate the 10th anniversary of The Moon & Antarctica, the highly
acclaimed major label debut from American indie rock band Modest Mouse, with the long
awaited vinyl reissue of the landmark album on April 17.

Out-of-print on vinyl for the past five years, 12″ copies of The Moon & Antarctica have become prized
collector’s items.

Available in time for Record Store Day 2010, The Moon & Antarctica, newly-struck on 12″ heavy double
vinyl, has been remastered using the band-approved 2004 CD master. The album features restored original artwork
and replicates the infinite lock groove found in the original vinyl pressings of 2000. The new vinyl reissue includes a
download card for The Moon & Antarctica.

Recorded from July through November 1999, The Moon & Antarctica, the third Modest Mouse album, was
first released on both vinyl and CD in June 2000. A milestone for the band and a sublime presence on the
American pop music landscape, The Moon & Antarctica turned up on many year-end best-of lists.

The highly influential Pitchfork Media ranked the album #3 for 2000, #7 for 2000-2004, and #6 for the decade
(2000-2010). Better Propaganda named The Moon & Antarctica #23 for the decade, Rhapsody ranked it #4
on their Alt/Indie’s Best Albums of the Decade” list and Entertainment Weekly, who ranked it #37 (out of 100) in
“The New Classics” list (from 1983-2008) calling the “…major-label debut from the Northwest indie heroes…an
angular, experimental treasure….”

A success in both the mainstream and the underground, The Moon & Antarctica was certified gold by the
RIAA as of March 9, 2009.

Roger Waters: The Wall Tour

ROGER WATERS COMMEMORATES 30th ANNIVERSARY OF THE WALL ALBUM

WITH HISTORIC TOUR & MONUMENTAL PRODUCTION OF HIS MASTERPIECE

Roger Waters’ The Wall North American Tour Opens September 15 in Toronto

Up Against The Wall! Photo by: Mark Fisher

Roger Waters, co-founder and principal songwriter of the archetypal progressive band Pink Floyd, is commemorating the 30th anniversary of the original release of The Wall with a monumental tour featuring a full band and a newly-mounted state-of-the-art production of his epochal masterpiece of alienation and transformation performed in its entirety.

Up to date details on Roger Waters’ The Wall Tour, and more, may be found on the artist’s newly relaunched and redesigned website, RogerWaters.com. Waters is personally involved with the site and will be communicating with fans through it.

The Wall has been previously performed live in its entirety by Waters just 31 times including Pink Floyd’s 1980-81 tour in support of the album. A spectacular Roger Waters solo staging and performance of the rock opera in July 1990, celebrating the fall of the Berlin Wall, drew nearly a half million fans to the Potsdamer Platz.

Roger Waters’ The Wall North American Tour, produced by Live Nation, will open September 15 in Toronto and runs through December 14 at the Anaheim Honda Center (please see full itinerary following).

The New York Times (March 2, 1980) declared that “The Wall show remains a milestone in rock history, it will be the touchstone against which all future rock spectacles must be measured.”

Originally released in November 1979, The Wall was America’s top-selling album of 1980, is one of the top-selling double albums of all time, and is still in the U.S. Top 5 best-selling albums of all time.

The Wall was made into a metaphorical musical film, directed by Alan Parker with screenplay by Roger Waters, in 1982.

One of the most profoundly influential albums in the history of recorded music, The Wall continues to affect pop culture while resonating with generations of music fans.

John Hiatt: The Open Road

JOHN HIATT TO RELEASE THE OPEN ROAD MARCH 2

John Hiatt

Looking at life through the rearview mirror was the inspiration for John Hiatt‘s brand new album, The Open Road, due out March 2 via New West Records. The legendary songwriter’s 19th studio album is classic Hiatt, picking up the tempo and returning to rock following his previous critically acclaimed Same Old Man.

Backed by his touring band, (Kenny Blevins on drums, Patrick O’Hearn on bass and Doug Lancio on guitars), the songs are inspired by life on the road, without looking back. “All the other years, my songs are about coming home,” Hiatt says.

Hiatt will take the new songs on the road beginning with a run of international dates with Lyle Lovett. Upon returning to the states, he will appear on the 3rd annual Cayamo Cruise, on which he’s played since the first voyage. Tour dates in North America will follow in March, with stops in New York City on March 10 followed by Pittsburgh, DC and Annapolis, which is already sold out.

Hiatt has written songs covered by a multitude of artists in a wide variety of genres including Bob Dylan, Rosanne Cash, Willie Nelson, Jewel and Bonnie Raitt, who most famously recorded “Thing Called Love.” On The Open Road he showcases both his lyrical and musical talent with his blues driven, rock songs including the title track and “Haulin’.” Hiatt produced The Open Road himself after recording with his band in his garage-turned-studio.
