Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti: Fall Tour Dates w/ Flaming Lips

TOUR DATES WITH THE FLAMING LIPS, PURO INSTINCT AND MAGIC KIDS

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti

Ariel Pink’s
Haunted
Graffiti
‘s 4AD debut record, Before Today, consists of twelve tracks
(including the single “Round And Round”) and was released worldwide on June 8th 2010 on
CD, LP and digital
formats.

Six months in the making, Before Today was recorded in part in Encino at the House
of Blues (once Tito
Jackson’s home studio) with Sunny Levine (Quincy Jones’ grandson) and Rik Pekkonen (Bill
Withers, Seals & Crofts,
Bread) as well as at the band’s home studios. The result is a beguiling mix of glam rock,
West Coast funk and
Merseybeat harmonies with a high-production sheen; a contrast to the corroded bedroom
recordings that have
fomented a fervent cult following over the past decade.

The outfit now consists of reclusive pop surrealist Ariel Pink (vocals) alongside
Tim Koh
(bass/vocals), Kenny Gilmore (guitar/vocals) and Aaron Sperske
(drums/vocals).

Lilith Fair: Full Tour Dates Adds Queen Latifah, Carly Simon

SARAH McLACHLAN HEADS UP A HUGE LINEUP OF FEMALE ARTISTS

Carly Simon and Queen Latifah are the latest additions to the Lilith Fair 2010 lineup. Simon will appear on three dates (Boston, Hartford and New York), and Latifah will appear on two dates (Detroit and Las Vegas). Additionally, the line-ups for the remaining 10 cities set to go on-sale over the next two weeks are now posted on LilithFair.com.

Lilith co-founders Terry McBride and Marty Diamond comment on the latest artist additions. Says McBride, “Carly Simon embodies the entire spirit of Lilith. She is a generational icon who continues to have a tremendous influence on so many women, whether musicians or fans. I can guess that many of the Lilith 2010 artists were impacted by her voice and words at some point. It’s truly an honor that she has come on board.” Adds Diamond, “Queen Latifah’s spirited performances on the original Lilith Fair are still some of the most memorable. She has had a remarkable career over the past 11 years, from music, to acting to now film production. She is a role model and inspiration to many, and we are thrilled that she is taking the time from her hectic schedule to rejoin the tour. “

Tickets are currently on-sale for 26 of the 36 markets. Boston and Hartford are the next to go on-sale this Saturday, May 8. There will be 11 artists on each date, with only two consistencies per show: the Lilith Local Talent Search Ourstage.com winner who starts the day and headliner Sarah McLachlan.

Filipinos killed in Afghan crash

Russian-built Mi-8. File photo

Ten civilians from the Philippines were among 16 people killed in a weekend helicopter crash at a military base in southern Afghanistan, officials said.

A consular official is on the way to Afghanistan to get more details, the Philippines foreign ministry said.

Investigations would also be made into how the Filipinos were in the country, despite a government ban.

The civilian-contracted helicopter crashed on Sunday on take-off from Kandahar airfield.

The Nato-led International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) said the helicopter was not shot down by insurgents.

The crash was the second in a week. Six passengers died when a helicopter came down in Helmand province on Tuesday.

RECENT HELICOPTER CRASHES

  • 14 Jul 2009: Six Ukrainian civilians and Afghan girl die in crash in Helmand. Suspected enemy fire
  • 6 Jul 2009: One UK and two Canadian soldiers die in crash in Zabul province. Enemy fire not suspected
  • 15 Jan 2009: Afghan general and 12 other soldiers die in crash in Herat province. Bad weather blamed
  • 30 May 2007: Seven killed as Nato Chinook crashes in Helmand. Cause unclear

Russian news agencies reported the aircraft was an Mi-8 helicopter belonging to Russian company Vertikal-1.

About 1,000 Filipinos worked and lived in Afghanistan before Manila banned its nationals from working there in the wake of the 2001 US-led invasion.

Vice President Noli de Castro has said about 1,500 Filipinos are working in Afghanistan, attracted by the high wages.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Esteban Conejos said the victims’ next of kin are being informed.

A Filipino carpenter at Kandahar Air Base was killed in a rocket attack in March.</p
