NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen said in Brussels on Monday that the number of KFOR soldiers troops in Kosovo would be halved as of March 1.
Reducing the number of soldiers from the current 10,000 to 5,000 will be completed by March 12, Rasmussen told reporters in Brussels, stressing that that would not affect the stability and security in Kosovo, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported.

EULEX says north is “dangerous zone”
Kosovo Albanian Interior Minister Bajram Redzepi urged the EULEX mission to withdraw from northern Kosovo, after EULEX declared this area a dangerous zone.
“The situation in (Kosovska) Mitrovica has not changed, and EULEX is not able to operate effectively. Therefore, it should withdraw and let KFOR and the Kosovo police (KPS) safeguard the security,” said Redzepi, according to Albanian language media reports in PriÅ¡tina.

KFOR has denied that the U.S. soldiers will take over the responsibility for the Kosovo north from the French.
KFOR Spokesman Hans-Dieter Wichter refuted allegations by the media from Priština that U.S. troops would be deployed to the north in March.

Serbian Army chief Lt. Gen. Miloje Miletić rejected on Sunday reports in some Albanian language media in PriÅ¡tina regarding his meeting with the KFOR commander. Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanović says the inauguration ceremony of the Serbian Patriarch Irinej will be entrusted to KFOR.
