Justin Rattner, Intel CTO, kicked off the Supercomputing 2009 (SC’09) conference today. Rattner asserted that the 3-D internet has the potential to be the “killer app” that can drive growth for High Performance Computers (HPC). He unveiled and demonstrated a new framework called ScienceSim, an open source virtual world that Intel helped to create for SC’09. He discussed examples of ScienceSim being used for applications from fern ecology to fashion research.
