Kaki King will return to her
acoustic roots this winter for a national tour that will make stops at renowned venues such as the Moma in New
York City, Yoshi’s in San Francisco and World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. In her 10-year career, King has released five
full lengths and two EPs. She has scored for television and film, most notably alongside Vedder and Michael Brook as
composers for Sean Penn’s Into the Wild for which she received a Best Original Score Golden Globe nomination.
King’s latest record, Junior, was released in April 2010 and featured King performing in a power rock-trio
configuration. This tour will feature only the guitarist as she performs in an acoustic format.

The repair company iFixit performed a teardown of the newest Google-branded smartphone, the Samsung-made Nexus S. What they found, iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens wrote in an e-mail to the media, left them feeling "just a tad underwhelmed." Coming from the creator of Android, the Nexus S gets the bragging right of being the first smartphone to run "Gingerbread," or Android 2.3, which is said to be the fastest version of the OS yet. It includes near field communications technology, WiFi connectivity, two cameras, 16GB of storage, 512MB of RAM and a 4-inch capacitive Super AMOLED touch screen. It’s also unique in offering a curved display that’s said to be comfortable in the hand and against the cheek& though the iFixit team found the branding of this feature misleading. While the glass is indeed curved, the touch screen and LCD are "just as flat as any phone’s," wrote Wiens. Still, the team found the phone to be easier to repair than some of its competitors, and decided that the Nexus S is a "solid Android phone overall, and we think a lot of people will be happy with it." With a touch of cynicism, Wiens added that the Nexus S is now king of the Android hill& at least "for the next twelve minutes or so, until the new next-best-Android-phone rises up to knock it off its perch." – …

partnered with The Impossible Project and photographer Autumn de Wilde to create a deluxe box edition of
The King Is Dead, their forthcoming Capitol Records album which will be released on January 18,
2011. Rough Trade Records will be releasing The King Is Dead in the UK and Europe on January 17. The
preorder of the set has launched today exclusively at Decemberists.com.
Each of the 2,500 limited edition box sets will be unique, with every one containing a one-of-a-kind original
Polaroid photo by de Wilde. The linen-wrapped clamshell box will have a foil-stamped cover, and will also include
the CD, 180-gram white vinyl with an exclusive cover design, the DVD Pendarvia (a 30-minute short film by Aaron
Rose documenting the making of the album), a 72-page hardcover book featuring over 250 photos by de Wilde and
illustrations by Carson Ellis, and a signed Giclee print of an exclusive illustration by Ellis. A sample of the deluxe
box edition can be viewed at Decemberists.com.

The Decemberists have
announced a January 18, 2011 release date for their new album The King Is Dead (Capitol
Records, EMI). Rough Trade Records will be releasing The King Is Dead in the UK and Europe on January 17.
The album—a set of 10 concise, country-based songs—marks a deliberate turn towards simplicity after the band’s
wildly ambitious and widely acclaimed 2009 song-cycle The Hazards of Love. Produced once again by
Tucker Martine, The King Is Dead features special guest appearances by Gillian Welch on seven
tracks and legendary R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck on three tracks.
The Decemberists will be performing the album’s lead single “Down by the Water” on Conan O’Brien’s newly
launched late show Conan on TBS on November 18. “Down by the Water” will be released digitally on
November 16. A pre-order of The King Is Dead will launch at Decemberists.com beginning November
22.
