EULEX says north is “dangerous zone”

Kosovo Albanian Interior Minister Bajram Redzepi urged the EULEX mission to withdraw from northern Kosovo, after EULEX declared this area a dangerous zone.
“The situation in (Kosovska) Mitrovica has not changed, and EULEX is not able to operate effectively. Therefore, it should withdraw and let KFOR and the Kosovo police (KPS) safeguard the security,” said Redzepi, according to Albanian language media reports in PriÅ¡tina.

Suspension lifted for Serb KPS member

A Serb man employed by the Kosovo police, KPS, in Zvečan, northern Kosovo, will return to work, said reports. Nenad Đurić was suspended after he failed to carry out a decision made by the Kosovo Albanian authorities in Priština to confiscate MUP-issued license plates for towns in Kosovo.

Serb officials in message to local KPS

Serbian officials in northern Kosovo have called on members of the Kosovo police, KPS, not to carry out “warped decisions of the Kosovo (Albanian) government”. They were also asked to “decide to which nation and which state they belong”.

Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanović saysBelgrade is fully prepared to begin talks with Priština about the situation in Kosovo.
He also criticized the Kosovo Albanian authorities for “doing nothing to get the dialogue started,” adding that the talks have to begin as soon as Kosovo forms a new government.

Qatar recognizes Kosovo as independent

Qatar has recognized Kosovo’s independence, Albanian language media in PriÅ¡tina announced on Tuesday. “The Kosovo embassy in New York was officially notified of the decision,” a Kosovo Albanian government official was quoted as saying.

K. Albanians: Marty report postpones dialogue

A Kosovo Albanian official who holds the office of acting Kosovo president says the Marty report may postpone the Belgrade-PriÅ¡tina dialogue. Jakup Krasniqi has stated that the “Kosovo institutions must clarify the situation after accusations and slander” he says was done by Special Rapporteur of the Council of Europe (CoE) Dick Marty.

“Northern Kosovo will not be subject of talks”

Outgoing Kosovo Albanian Interior Minister Bajram Redzepi says that northern Kosovo will not be on the agenda of the Belgrade-PriÅ¡tina talks. He told local newspapers that “the problem of the north cannot be solved in one year and that it requires a long-term approach”.

“EULEX panic” after organ smuggling revelations

London’s Times newspaper writes today that the Marty document has “created panic” inside the EU mission in Kosovo, the BBC reports. The CoE investigator’s report named Kosovo Albanian PM Hashim Thaci as responsible for kidnappings of Serb and other civilians in Kosovo in 1999 and 2000, whose organs were extracted to be sold in the black market.

Kosovo: Election repeat in 5 municipalities

The body organizing elections in Kosovo on Thursday decided to annul the results of the voting on 21 polls in five municipalities.
This came due to irregularities during the voting at the early elections held on December 12, organized by the Kosovo Albanian authorities in Priština.

Tadić: Talks with Thaci despite accusations

Serbian President Boris Tadić has said that despite serious accusations leveled at Hashim Thaci, “we are ready to talk with him”. CoE Rapporteur Dick Marty’s report identified the outgoing Kosovo Albanian premier as one of those allegedly responsible for kidnapping Serbs and trading with their vital organs, and involvement in other crimes.

Belgrade sees “two realities” in Kosovo

Minister for Kosovo and Metohija Goran Bogdanović says there are “two realities in Kosovo”, one south and the other north of the Ibar River. Bogdanović stated for the Belgrade-based daily Politika on Wednesday that “the fact that Serbs south of the Ibar River took part in the (Kosovo) elections despite the recommendation of the Serbian government does not mean anything” as the Kosovo Albanian authorities in PriÅ¡tina “aim to divide Kosovo Serbs in any possible way.”

“No pressure on voting K. Serbs”

Ministry for Kosovo State Secretary Oliver Ivanović stated late on Wednesday that Serbs who wish to vote in Kosovo are not pressured or threatened. The Kosovo Albanian authorities in Priština is organizing the election, scheduled for Dec. 12.

“Slovakia to recognize Kosovo if Serbia agrees”

Slovakia will recognize Kosovo only if Belgrade agrees with it previously, Slovak Prime Minister Iveta Radičova says. She told Belgrade-based daily Večernje Novosti that Slovakia, which is one of the five European Union countries that have not recognized the Kosovo Albanian UDI, fully supports Serbia’s European integrations.

Radmila Trajković of the United Serb List has stated that the Serbian government should back Serbs in Kosovo who want to take part in the forthcoming elections. The voting has been scheduled for Dec. 12, and is organized by the Kosovo Albanian authorities.

Kosovo recognitions stall despite ICJ

Despite pressure and lobbying in Priština’s favor, only three countries have recognized Kosovo after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) advisory opinion.

K. Albanian crime boss arrested in Ireland

Kosovo Albanian Enver Sekiraqa, suspected of a number of crimes in Kosovo including a murder of a policeman, has been arrested in Dublin on an Interpol warrant.

Kosovo Police Chief Resat Malici confirmed the arrest, adding that the Kosovo authorities were working to have the suspect extradited.

Haradinaj files for temporary release

Kosovo Albanian politician Ramush Haradinaj has filed a motion for temporary release from prison during the upcoming holiday recess.

As a reason for the temporary release, the former member of the so-called KLA, who is at the Hague Tribunal accused of committing war crimes, stated that his wife was pregnant and due to give birth in mid-January.
