K. Albanian official: No status talks

Kosovo Albanian official Skender Hiseni said today that the status of Kosovo has been “concluded”. Intentions to reopen negotiations on that issue, said Hiseni – appointed by the government in PriÅ¡tina as its foreign minister – are “a lost mission”.

Hague acquits ex-Kosovo minister on contempt charge

The Hague Tribunal Appeals Chamber has found Kosovo Albanian Astrit Haraqi not guilty of contempt of court, the Hague has announced. The court quashed the verdict of the initial trial, where Haraqia was found guilty of witness intimidation in the case against Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leader Ramus Haradinaj.

Kosovo “will join UN in five years”

Kosovo Albanian government officials expect that Kosovo will become a member of the United Nations in five years, according to daily Koha Ditore. The Albanian language newspaper published in PriÅ¡tina quoted Skender Hiseni, appointed as foreign minister, who said he is “sure that Kosovo will be a UN member-state in five years’ time”.

K. Albanians to send “new arguments”

Representatives of the Kosovo Albanian government in PriÅ¡tina will on July 17 send additional arguments to the International Court of Justice, reports said. The move, according to Albanian language daily Koha Ditore, will seek to “defend the legitimacy of the independence declaration”.

Belgrade expects extradition of ex-KLA

Italian authorities yesterday arrested a Kosovo Albanian wanted by Serbia on war crimes charges. Muarem Gasi was a member of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army, KLA, and is believed to have killed two Serb civilians during the 1999 conflict in the province. He was detained on an international arrest warrant.

Dominican Republic recognizes Kosovo

The Dominican Republic has today recognized Kosovo, the Kosovo Albanian government’s foreign affairs ministry in PriÅ¡tina announced. The ministry also said that the Dominican Republic congratulated “authorities and people of Kosovo on their achievements so far and on forming institutions that have enabled the people to have a sovereign and internationally recognized state”.
