Italian authorities yesterday arrested a Kosovo Albanian wanted by Serbia on war crimes charges. Muarem Gasi was a member of the so-called Kosovo Liberation Army, KLA, and is believed to have killed two Serb civilians during the 1999 conflict in the province. He was detained on an international arrest warrant.

Montenegrin envoy in Belgrade “soon”
Montenegrin President Filip Vujanović says that his country will soon have its ambassador in Belgrade. Podgorica’s top diplomatic envoy to Serbia was expelled last year after Montenegro recognized Kosovo Albanians’ independence declaration.
Dominican Republic recognizes Kosovo
The Dominican Republic has today recognized Kosovo, the Kosovo Albanian government’s foreign affairs ministry in PriÅ¡tina announced. The ministry also said that the Dominican Republic congratulated “authorities and people of Kosovo on their achievements so far and on forming institutions that have enabled the people to have a sovereign and internationally recognized state”.
“UNMIK political activity thrown lifeline”
An office designed to create benefits and support communities has become the “savior” of UNMIK’s political activities in Kosovo, writes a local daily. “The office, opened at the beginning of this month, enables UNMIK not to give up on its political activities in Kosovo, despite the reduction of its staff,” Albanian language newspaper Koha Ditore says.
“Kosovo will be represented as state”
Kosovo PM Hashim Thaci says Kosovo will be represented “in all summits as a state”. The Kosovo Albanian leader is in Dubrovnik, Croatia, where he is attending a gathering, and where he commented on FM Vuk Jeremić’s absence.
Mass grave found near Gnjilane
EULEX and Kosovo police have found the remains of eight bodies buried in a field in Kmetovce, near Gnjilane. The identities of the bodies are still unknown, Kosovo police spokesman Arber Beka told B92.
Bulgaria to open embassy in Kosovo
The Bulgarian Liaison Office in PriÅ¡tina is to become an embassy, the Foreign Ministry in Sofia has announced. “The outgoing Bulgarian government has decided to raise the Bulgarian Liaison Office in PriÅ¡tina to the level of an embassy. Ambassadorial duties will for now be discharged by the current office director, Ivo Ivanov,“ PriÅ¡tina media report.
Sejdiu makes annual address to assembly
Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu says that the province has “demonstrated that it is a home for all citizens, regardless of ethnicity or religion”. In this annual address to the assembly in PriÅ¡tina, Sejdiu said that the institutions of Kosovo had “proven to the citizens and international community that they are a serious partner and that Kosovo is an important factor for peace and stability.â€
