Ozzfest 2010: Mötley Crüe Rob Halford, Black Label Society

SIX DATES FROM SAN BERNARDINO TO BOSTON

Mötley Crue

More than 15 years after Ozzy Osbourne began the landmark metal gathering, Ozzfest returns this August in six American cities with a bill co-headlined by Ozzy and Mötley Crue – touring together for the first time with Ozzy since he invited the group on his 1984 arena tour.

The 2010 Ozzfest – back after taking a year off in 2009 and the 2008 one-off stadium show in Dallas, TX with Ozzy and Metallica headlining – will kick off August 14 in San Bernardino (the birthplace of the first Ozzfest in 1996) and then make stops in Chicago, IL, Hartford, CT, Camden, NJ, Pittsburgh, PA and Boston, MA.

DevilDriver and Nonpoint will round out the main stage line-up. Second stage headliner and six-time Ozzfest veterans Black Label Society will be joined by Drowning Pool, Kingdom of Sorrow, Goatwhore, Skeletonwitch, Saviours and Kataklysm.

Each Ozzfest date will include 13 bands on two stages with music beginning at 1:00 PM. In addition, concertgoers can once again visit the Ozzfest “Village of the Damned” featuring a mix of interactive activities, shopping and entertainment throughout the venue concourses.

These Ozzfest dates mark the first concerts in the U.S. in connection with the June 15 release of Scream (Epic Records), the Ozzfest founder’s first album in three years and 10th studio album overall. Ozzy’s band consists of his new guitar player, Gus G, bassist Blasko, drummer Tommy Clufetos and keyboardist Adam Wakeman.

The Books: New Album & Label

THE BOOKS SIGN TO TEMPORARY RESIDENCE AND ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM COMING IN
JULY

The Books

The visionary duo of Nick Zammuto and Paul de Jong, collectively known to the world as The Books, are pleased to
announce their signing to Temporary Residence Limited and plans to release a new album this July. Their 2010
release will mark the band’s return to the studio after five years of work and touring and the beginning of a whole
new journey as a long-awaited follow-up to the band’s critically acclaimed previous releases, Lost and Safe,
The Lemon of Pink and Thought for Food.

The Books have carved a niche for themselves in both the music and art world, mixing brilliant songwriting and
minimalist instrumentation with found sound and visual pastiche, crafting some of the most sonically infectious
albums that have been made in the oughts. Their trademark aesthetic also applies to their live show, where they
present hours of sifted-through found video and images, edited down to video pieces that interact and are
manipulated simultaneously with their music. See the JamBase review from last year for more on the band’s live performance.

The band’s last album, 2005′s Lost and Safe, was released to
much worldwide applause and The Books’ subsequent sold out world tour was met with glowing reviews of their live
show, which prominently featured their video art installations in unexpected spaces accompanied by their incredible
soundtracks. The band is thrilled to perform at ATP Festival in New York this September and will announce a slew of
new dates this year in the weeks to follow.

For those academics that simply must have a closer look inside the inner-workings of the band’s brains, they can
now be followed with weekly updates on their blog on The Books’ highly interactive website. Details on the
upcoming album, tour dates and a behind the scenes look will be revealed on the blog as the release approaches. Check it out here.

“These guys remain at the bleeding edge of pop innovation” – Billboard

“This decidedly literate songcraft has a range of ancestors, including Talking Heads, Sparks and David Grubbs, but
three albums along, The Books are nailing down a distinctive soundworld of their own” – The Wire

Tallest Man On Earth: New Album New Label, Free MP3

TALLEST MAN ON EARTH TO RELEASE THE WILD HUNT APRIL 13
SIGNS WITH DEAD OCEANS RECORDS

The Tallest Man On Earth

When fans lined up to see the sold out Bon Iver performances at New York City’s Town Hall in late 2008, few of them went with any expectations of the opening act. Emerging from this slot was the The Tallest Man On Earth, a voice and songwriter that intrigued and captivated.

Earlier in the year, The Tallest Man on Earth had released one of 2008′s most powerful records, Shallow Grave – one that Pitchfork praised, calling Kristian Matsson (who is The Tallest Man on Earth) “a natural-born folksinger, earnest, clever, and comforting.” Shallow Grave could not have been simpler, just Matsson’s commanding vocals with an acoustic guitar or banjo, recorded at his home in Dalarna, Sweden.

The Tallest Man On Earth will release his highly-anticipated follow up, The Wild Hunt, April 13 on his new label, Dead Oceans. For a taste of the new 10-song collection, download “King of Spain” here.

It is impossible to discuss The Tallest Man on Earth’s music without acknowledging Bob Dylan. The seemingly effortlessness, the melodic sensibility and the deft lyricism all recall Dylan’s early years. But when you witness the Tallest Man on Earth perform live; you are watching a man possessed. The energy pours out with every word. Full of intensity and raw emotion, he paces the stage, bringing the audience into the palm of his hand, completely lost in his songs.
