Laplink Switch and Sync Useful but Lacking

Switch & Sync, from Laplink Software, will save a lot of time for users who want to salvage documents and e-mail files from a Windows PC and move them to a Mac OS X computer. It offers a simple alternative to the old way of doing things: repeated drag-and-drop copying of directory hierarchies, followed by invoking a mail conversion utility. But it needs some work before it is fit for use in all but the most controlled or trivial circumstances. It is severely lacking in the areas of security and user interface, has only the most rudimentary of logging abilities, and ignores the built-in authentication, security and user interface features of the Mac platform. For ongoing use, caution is necessary, because this is a tool that should raise an audit flag in any organization committed to regulatory compliance and adherence to governance schemes.
