Masters of Reality: New Album US Dates, UK Tour w/ The Cult

HUGELY INFLUENTIAL BAND RETURNS WITH KILLER NEW RECORD

“Although Chris Goss is probably best known for his production/engineering talents (having worked with UNKLE, Stone Temple Pilots and, most extensively, Kyuss and Queens Of The Stone Age), since the late 80s, he has been issuing albums as the leader of Masters Of Reality.” – Billboard

“A study in Goss’ brand of desert-rock weirdness, a kind of bad-acid-trip storyboard that makes you believe you’re in a German expressionist production of Alice In Wonderland and you can’t blink or else the pod people will erase your soul.” – Magnet

“What knocks you back on your heels with Pine/Cross Dover is how much this band still sounds like no one else and how much others have lifted from them. Masters of Reality aren’t trying to emulate any of their ancestors but in their veins flows the same viscous fluids that pumped through prime Deep Purple, Television, Grand Funk Railroad, Cream and the like.” – Dirty Impound

Masters’ Chris Goss

For nearly 20 years, the intermittent and somewhat reclusive collaborative musical efforts of Chris Goss and John Leamy collectively known as the avant-renegade rockers Masters of Reality (a relationship that began with Leamy painting the cover of their very first Masters album), have influenced the face and character of rock and roll music around the world. And that tradition continues with Pine/Cross Dover (released October 12 in the U.S.).

Check out the lead-off track “King Richard TLH” here.

On the band’s brand new, two-headed beast of a full-length recording, the group pits the finer elements of the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Public Image Limited against each other for a Masters of Reality album that rocks, rolls, and grooves like one devilish son of a gun. Joining Goss and Leamy are a host of special guests, including Eagles of Death Metal bassist Brian O’Connor and guitarist Dave Catching, Merle Jagger guitarist Mark Christian, background singers Shawnee Smith and Missi Pyle, as well as former Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Brendon McNichol.

The Who: Live at Leeds 4 CD Box Set

LEGENDARY LIVE ALBUM TO BE REISSUED IN A 4 CD BOX SET

Live at Leeds

To mark the 40th anniversary of the 1970 release of The Who‘s Live at Leeds, Geffen/Universal will release a “Super Deluxe” 4 CD
box set on November 16. Having been reissued and expanded from the original six tracks twice before (in 1995 and
2001), the new set will include the complete 150 minute version of the February 14 Leeds University concert, as well
as a double CD of the recording from the February 15 Hull City Hall concert.

The Hull City Hall concert, considered by the band themselves to be the superior performance, was originally
intended as the live album but was later shelved due to “technical difficulties” in the recording. Both concerts
contain a complete performance of Tommy.

The Super Deluxe 4 CD box set also includes a reproduction of the original vinyl album in heavyweight vinyl, a 64-
page hardcover book with pics, memorabilia and recording notes from the shows, a seven-inch 45 single of
“Summertime Blues” b/w “Heaven and Hell” in a color sleeve and a Pete Townshend poster. (via Direct Current)

British polls produce hung parliament

LONDON – No British political party has been able to secure an outright majority in the House of Commons and there will now be a frantic period of negotiations between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats to decide the shape of the next government.
The general election has led to the first hung parliament since 1974, with the Conservatives bagging 306 seats to become the biggest party in the 650-member House, but could not win an overall majority – 326 seats – and face power-sharing talks after falling short of an overall majority, final vote results showed Friday.
Although the Conservatives have won the most seats, the largest party does not automatically have the right to try to form an administration.
The Labour party won 258 seats and the Liberal Democrats 57, after the last result from all constituencies contested in elections on Thursday was announced.
By winning 57 seats, the Liberal Democrats have made it impossible for the Conservatives to win the 326 seats they need to govern alone.
Northern IrelandÂ’s Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) won eight; the Scottish National Party (SNP) six; Sinn Fein five; the Welsh Plaid Cymru three; Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) three in Northern Ireland, with one each for Greens and the Alliance Party, the latter in Belfast. One seat has been won by another candidate.
One seat has yet to be decided: an election will be held for the constituency of Thirsk and Malton in northeast England on May 27, after one of the candidates fighting it died during the election campaign.
Under Britain’s election rules, Labour Prime Minister Gordon Brown has the right to attempt to form a coalition first, but he accepted Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg’s decision to talk with Cameron first. Cameron and Clegg would be “entitled to take as much time as they feel necessary,” Brown said, while offering to talk to the Lib Dems if they failed.
“Clearly should the discussions between Cameron and Clegg come to nothing then I would of course be prepared to discuss with Clegg the areas where there may be some measure of agreement between our two parties,” he said.
Until Brown and Cameron’s statements, the centre-left prime minister’s key allies said Labour, which has ruled since 1997, would try to cling to power through a deal with the centrist Lib Dems. But Clegg said the Conservatives, as the largest party in the new parliament, had the “first right to seek to govern”.
In a statement in Westminster, Conservative’s leader David Cameron held out a “big, open and comprehensive offer” to the Liberal Democrats to work together in government.
He acknowledged that there would have to be reform of the electoral system and he proposed the creation of an all-party committee of inquiry to look at the issue. It was not immediately clear whether CameronÂ’s offer would involve a formal coalition with Liberal Democrats ministers in a cabinet.
As a major carrot to attract Lib Dems support, Cameron offered an all-party committee of inquiry on political and electoral reform to look at the possibility of changing WestminsterÂ’s first-past-the-post voting system. But he stopped short of promising the immediate legislation on a referendum on voting reform offered by Prime Minister Gordon Brown less than an hour earlier.
Cameron stressed that it was essential that the parties were able to offer leadership to the country: “Britain voted for change yesterday, but it also voted for a new politics, it did not vote for party political bickering, grandstanding and point-scoring.
“Our country’s problems are too serious, they are too urgent for that. So we must all rise to this occasion, we must show leadership.”
Cameron outlined the areas of policy agreement between the Conservatives and Lib Dems, which he said offered “a strong basis for a strong government”.
At the same time he stressed that – unlike the Lib Dems – the Tories remained “completely convinced” that the new government would have to start cutting BritainÂ’s record 163 billion pounds deficit this year. “This has been more than confirmed by recent events in other European countries, recent instability in the markets and recent conversations that we have had both with the Treasury and the Bank of England,” he said.
AFP adds: Britain could yet face fresh election within months, despite the start of talks between Conservatives and Liberal Democrats on a possible power-sharing deal in a hung parliament, experts warned.
David CameronÂ’s centre-right Tories and Nick CleggÂ’s centrist Liberal Democrats could struggle to find common ground since they strongly disagree on issues including Europe, defence and immigration, analysts said.
If the two parties fail to reach agreement, the Liberal Democrats could still make a pact with Prime Minister Gordon BrownÂ’s Labour party, which lost its overall majority in ThursdayÂ’s general election.
“Either way there’s going to be an election again soon, probably before the end of the year,” Victoria Honeyman, a politics lecturer at Leeds University, told AFP.
Monitoring Desk adds: Following a chaotic general election result, political horse-trading aimed at cobbling together BritainÂ’s first coalition government for decades has begun, reported Christian Science Monitor.
The political landscape is a mess after no one party emerged with enough seats to form a majority in Parliament. The ball, however, appears to be in the court of David Cameron, the British Conservative leader whose party won the most votes but fell short of the majority that only a few months ago was considered to be within his grasp.
Nick Clegg, whose centrist Liberal Democrats failed to shatter the Labour and Tory duopoly on power, said that the Conservatives had the first right to seek to govern after winning the biggest mandate in terms of votes and seats.
Before potentially approaching Mr CleggÂ’s party for support, however, the Tories may seek woo Northern IrelandÂ’s Democratic Unionist Party.
Meanwhile, donÂ’t write off Gordon Brown, who has returned to Downing Street from his home constituency in Scotland. His party defied predictions that were made as late as last week that it was headed for an electoral wipeout.

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra: Tour/Album

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra Premiere Video and Announce U.S. Tour
in Support of New Album, Kollaps Tradixionales

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra (SMZ) returns with its sixth full-length recording and first since the band’s lineup change in summer 2008. Having shed three members and recruiting a new drummer, the group officially dropped the “Tra-La-La Band” from its name, played a debut performance as a newly minted quintet at All
Tomorrow’s Parties in upstate NY, and embarked on an extensive European tour through the Fall of 2008. As Kollaps Tradixionales ably demonstrates, the band has lost none of its raw and frazzled anthemic power and continues to forge bold new ground in its search for a unique hybrid of punk, blues, psych, folk and modern orchestral idioms.

Kollaps Tradixionales is available on standard CD (in a custom gatefold paperboard jacket) and limited-edition deluxe CD (which is packaged together with a 6″x9″ 16-page perfect-bound art book and poster). The album also comes in a deluxe first pressing on double 10″ vinyl, with the art book, a CD copy, and two different posters
inside. The album is also available digitally. You can purchase the album here.

Hockey Add Tour Dates

HOCKEY ADD 2010 TOUR DATES

Hockey

Portland’s Hockey pick up in 2010 right where they left off in ’09; touring the globe in support of their debut album Mind Chaos. After a string of West Coast dates, the foursome will play shows in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Switzerland, France, Spain and the U.K., before returning home to headline a club tour starting March 11 in Minneapolis.

The band’s new single “Song Away” hits Alternative radio on February 9 and the video was named one of the best of 2009 by iTunes as part of iTunes Rewind 2009. Hockey’s breakout first single “Too Fake” reached #25 at alternative radio and is still being spun at many stations around the country.

Hockey played their first New York City show last January and have since toured the globe non-stop, including the U.K. three times, U.S. festivals SXSW, Sasquatch!, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and CMJ, and almost every major European festival including Glastonbury, Hove, Peace and Love, Eurockenees, Solidays, Oxegen, T In The Park and Gurtenfestival, Leeds and Reading.

Additionally they have performed on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Fuel TV‘s Daily Habit, and on Later With Jools Holland and Live From Abbey Road in the U.K. Hockey’s Live From Abbey Road appearance will air in the U.S. on the Sundance Channel March 26.

Formed in Los Angeles five years ago by lead singer Ben Grubin and bassist Jeremy “Jerm” Reynolds, Hockey is now based in Portland, OR as a quartet with Brian White on guitar and Anthony Stassi on drums.

New Mastersounds, Trom Shorty Salvador Santana Tour Dates

THE NEW MASTERSOUNDS TOUR WITH TROMBONE SHORTY AND SALVADOR SANTANA

The New Mastersounds

Kicking off 2010 with an international tour including Japan, Spain and the United Kingdom, The New Mastersounds are already jet setting their way across the globe. The band’s first U.S. tour will begin March 3 in Boulder, CO at The Fox Theatre with San Francisco Bay Area musician (and son of 10x Grammy winner Carlos) Salvador Santana. Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue will be co-headlining on select dates.

The New Mastersounds will be touring in support of the fan driven November 2009 release Ten Years On. The band also released Plug & Play on Fontana/One Note Records in March 2009, providing a steady flow of new music for their live shows. The New Mastersounds’ live shows have been met with overwhelming enthusiasm; Encore Online says “upon listening to their deep, open-ended and warm sound it’s apparent why they are blowing up on the international funk scene and are now taking America one show at a time.”

Led by guitarist and producer Eddie Roberts, The New Mastersounds feature Joe Tatton on keys, Pete Shand on bass and Simon Allen on drums.
