Bootsy Collins: Tha Funk Capitol of the World

LEGENDARY FUNKATEER TEAMS WITH GEORGE CLINTON, CHUCK D, SNOOP DOGG, REV. AL SHARPTON,
DR. CORNEL WEST, SAMUEL L. JACKSON, MUSIQ SOULCHILD, ICE CUBE AND MORE

Bootsy Collins

Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer and legendary bassist Bootsy Collins, known worldwide for pioneering funk music with James Brown and Parliament Funkadelic, will release his first
new album in five years, Tha Funk Capitol of the World, April 26 on Mascot Records. Collins
collaborated with fellow P-Funkers George
Clinton
and Bernie Worrell on
the record, along with an all-star lineup of musicians and cultural luminaries including rappers Snoop Dogg, Chuck D, and Ice Cube; actor Samuel L.
Jackson
; banjo phenom Bela Fleck
; the Rev. Al Sharpton; scholar Dr. Cornel West; and guitarists Buckethead and Catfish Collins
- Bootsy’s late brother. Engineered in part by Dan Monti (Guns n Roses, Metallica), the album also
features a tribute to Garry Shider, the late guitarist and musical director of the P-Funk All-Stars.

The album’s 16 tracks are sonically rooted in Bootsy’s earth-shaking party grooves, but songs like “Freedumb” and
“Minds Under Construction” reveal higher ambitions. “There are real messages on this album that I wanted to
share,” explains Collins, whose soul-deep rhythms and layered melodies are punctuated by lyrics that range from
meditations on the nature of truth and spiritual transcendence, to blissed-out joy.

More album details and tour dates will soon be announced.

Legendary Rock Photographer Jim Marshall Dies at 74

Legendary rock photographer Jim Marshall passed away in his sleep last night (March 23, 2010) in a New York hotel room. He was 74 years old.

Marshall is one of the most famous and most talented photographers to have documented rock & roll. His photos include Jimi Hendrix burning his guitar at the Monterey Pop Festival, The Allman Brothers’ At Fillmore East album cover, Johnny Cash giving the middle finger at San Quentin, and he was the lead photographer for Woodstock and the only photographer granted backstage access to The Beatles’ final concert, which took place at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, on August 29, 1966.

Legendary Shack Shakers Announce New Album and Supporting Tour, Give Away New Track

Legendary Shack Shakers

Legendary Shack Shakers will release Agridustrial on April 13 on their own Colonel Knowledge label.

Agridustrial was produced by LSS bassist Mark Robertson and is the band’s seventh full-length album. Front man J.D. Wilkes explains, “It’s the hard driving roots rock of the Shack Shakers’ sound with the industrial background of guitarist Duane Denison (Jesus Lizard, Tomahawk)”.

The Agridustrial sound mirrors the harsh realities of our present day recession and is the statement of an American band fighting back against a society gone mad with greed and the usurpation of basic human dignities. There are songs that praise Jesus, “Sin Eater”, and southern-fried provocateurs, “Dixie Iron Fist”. “Hoboes Are My Heroes” is borne from Wilkes’ recent experience of riding the rails. Even the sound of Agridustrial is a direct response to the present day recession, with the band even going to a blacksmith forge to record the sounds of hammers, anvils, tongs, cranks and chains for much of the percussion on the album.

The Legendary Shack Shakers are J.D. Wilkes (vocals), Duane Denison (guitar), Mark Robertson (bass) and Brett Whitacre on drums.

The band will kick off promotion of the new album at SXSW and a full tour will be announced soon.

“Sin Eater” is available for download here.
