Everyone loves Hollywood sex scenes. Sure, we have cheap abundant pornography in our enlightened age, and a secretive bedroom in which to peruse it, but surely there’s still nothing quite so pleasantly surprising – and oddly, more arousing – than sitting, watching a film and suddenly being confronted with a sly bit of skin. Not [...]

Black Joe Lewis: Scandalous
FOLLOW UP TO 2009′S TELL ‘EM WHAT YOUR NAME IS!
On March 15, 2011, Lost Highway Records will release Scandalous, the sophomore album from
Austin, TX-based garage soul ensemble Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears.
Produced by Jim Eno of Spoon and featuring 11 new songs, Scandalous finds the young band returning with
their modern and original take on classic American musical styles. There are still plenty of tight horns and hard-
driving rhythms on tracks like “Livin’ In The Jungle,” “Booty City,” and “Black Snake,” but the new album is a decidedly
more diverse and contemporary offering than its predecessor. Gospel punk burner “You Been Lyin’” fits squarely
alongside the country blues of “Messin’” and the Stax-meets-Stones soul of “Since I Met You Baby.” The raw funk
creeper “She’s So Scandalous” stands out as an album highlight.
Look for Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears on tour this spring in support of Scandalous.

PHOTOS
| JAZZ: The Smithsonian Anthology |
Seven years in the making, JAZZ: The Smithsonian Anthology will be released by Smithsonian
Folkways on March 29, 2011. The six-CD box set traces the turning points of this 20th-century tale through its
legendary innovators and exemplary exponents: Armstrong, Ellington, Basie, Parker, Gillespie, Davis, Hancock,
Corea, Coltrane and many more. The set opens with Scott Joplin‘s 1899 “Maple Leaf Rag” and spans
the entire century, closing with Tomasz Stan´ko‘s 2003 “Suspended Night Variation VIII.”
As the successor to the original 1973 milestone Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz, the set has been
substantially updated with more than eighty percent new selections. In its nearly eight hours of music, many
hundreds of musicians are featured on 111 tracks, and the set is accompanied by a 200-page book of essays, track
annotations and historical photos. The six CDs encompass ragtime, New Orleans, swing, bebop, hard bop, cool,
modal, free, fusion, Latin and many more of the variegated creations in jazz’s magnificent sound mosaic.
A blue ribbon executive committee selected the final 111 recordings from thousands of tracks recommended by
dozens of jazz experts, and with annotations contributed by a team of 35 scholars and educators, JAZZ
offers a wellspring resource for jazz fans of all stripes – educators, students, musicians, beginners and
aficionados.

Yahoo, Novell, Sprint, Motorola Execs Overpaid: Report
Yahoo, Novell, Sprint and Motorola are some of the tech companies that topped research firm Glass Lewis & Co.’s 2010 "Pay Dirt" report& for overpaying their executives relative to company performance. The report’s "Overpaid 25" lists companies whose "compensation programs and policies& have failed to effectively link executive pay with company performance." In other words, executives who earned millions while their units failed to perform, or their stock price dipped. "Glass Lewis believes that year-after-year underperformance warrants significant action in order to rectify the issues that are plaguing the company and contributing to its lackluster performance," reads the report. However, some of the "Overpaid 25" companies have appeared on that list in previous years. Although its revenue numbers continue to be robust, Oracle was cited by the report as a company whose executives receive particularly high compensation. Glass Lewis also included an "Underpaid 25" list, whose executives receive minimal compensation relative to their companies’ robust performances. Those executives included Apple CEO Steve Jobs and Amazon.com CEO Jeff Bezos. Overall, though, technology companies constituted a small percentage of both lists. – …

Huey Lewis and the News: Soulsville
FIRST ALBUM IN NINE YEARS
![]() Soulsville |
Soulsville is the first new album in nine years from Huey Lewis and the News. The new
album was recorded in the city’s historic Ardent Studios. Recorded with their long time horn section in Memphis,
Soulsville features 14 classic songs from the vault of Stax Records, including “Respect Yourself” and “Got To
Get You Off My Mind.”
For the album cover, Memphis folk artist Lamar Sorrento has created a striking, affectionate caricature of
a Memphis street corner. Complete with musicians, rib joints, and, of course, WDIA, the country’s first black radio
station, Sorrento captures the sprit and energy of Memphis just as vibrantly as Lewis and the News do on their new
album.
Soulsville is out November 2.
