Kaki King: Junior Out 4/13 Signs To Rounder

KAKI KING SIGNS TO ROUNDER RECORDS, JUNIOR OUT APRIL 13

Kaki King

Singer & guitarist extraordinaire Kaki King has signed with Rounder Records. Named a “Guitar God” by Rolling Stone, King has spent the past decade gathering critical acclaim and fan admiration. She received a Golden Globe nomination for her contribution to the musical score of the 2007 film Into the Wild, and also performed on the Foo Fighters‘ 2007 Grammy winning album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace.

As with her previous album, 2008′s Dreaming of Revenge, Junior was produced by Malcolm Burn (Emmylou Harris, Patti Smith), but unlike each of King’s previous efforts – where she recorded all the instruments herself – for Junior she enlisted help from multi-instrumentalist Dan Brantigan and drummer Jordan Perlson. King wrote each of the album’s 11 songs.

Following her previously announced European dates, King will spend the Spring in the U.S., hitting New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Nashville, Chicago and Los Angeles, among many others.

Gov’t Mule | 01.15 – 01.19 | Jamaica

Words & Images by: Dino Perrucci

Gov’t Mule Island Exodus :: 01.15 – 01.19 :: Negril, Jamaica

Gov’t Mule :: 01.18 :: Jamaica

Gov’t Mule held its first ever Island Exodus at the all-inclusive Grand Lido Resort in Negril, Jamaica. The event featured three headlining shows from Gov’t Mule as well as a Warren Haynes solo show, three sets from Grace Potter and The Nocturnals, guests Ron Holloway (sax), “Mean” Willie Green (drums) and DJ Logic. The weekend fiesta also featured a golf outing, Drum Clinic with Matt Abts, road stories from Warren Haynes’ guitar tech Brian Farmer and much more.

With a stage located right next to the water on a beautiful sandy beach, the table was set for the experience of a lifetime. The Gov’t Mule sets throughout the weekend offered a great mix of songs from the new release By A Thread mixed with old favorites and island themed covers. Friday nights opener “Jam-Aica” > “The Joker” (Steve Miller cover) set the tone for what was to come. By the end of the set when Ron Holloway stepped out for “Dirty Work” (Steely Dan cover) and the set closer “Sco-Mule,” the beach was on fire.

Saturday night opened with a nod to local hero Toots Hibbert with a cover of the Maytals’ “54-46″ that led into “I’m A Ram.” The strong show was topped off with multiple guests joining for encores of “32/20 Blues” featuring Willie Green and Ron Holloway, followed by “Stop That Train” with Willie Green, Ron Holloway, Grace Potter and Nocturnals guitarist Scott Tournet.

Sunday evening featured a big Nocturnals set and two full sets of Warren Haynes solo. Though somewhat marred by rain and the ensuing sound problems, the show still provided some of the finest musical moments of the weekend. Monday night’s final set was one for the ages. High energy from the start, things really took off once “Rocking Horse” led into a “Beat It” jam with Warren ripping the Eddie Van Halen solo through the Jamaican night. “Beat It” also featured the stage debut of Sean Carlsson (Jorgen’s son) and his robot dance. The second set opened with Matt Abts on vocals leading the band through a cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Shattered” with Jorgen Carlsson on drums and Danny Louis on bass. It’s worth noting that over the course of the weekend Danny Louis, while usually seated behind the keys, also stepped out to play trumpet, guitar, bass and even joined Abts on Drums. The “Many Rivers To Cross” that opened the encore saw many goose-bumps and more than a few tears. I couldn’t help while standing there in paradise but to think for a moment that not too far away in Haiti there is a whole country with many, many rivers to cross. Ending the night with a rousing “Southern Man” (Neil Young cover), everyone walked away with big smiles on their faces.
In the end, fans and musicians alike seemed to agree that this was one of the most memorable times any of us have ever spent together.

Gov’t Mule 2010 Tour

GOV’T MULE LAUNCH 2010 NATIONAL TOUR ON HEELS OF NEW ALBUM BY A THREAD

Gov’t Mule

Gov’t Mule is bringing their “hard-charging” (Rolling Stone), soul-influenced, rock & roll to Jamaica next week for its sold out First Annual “Gov’t Mule’s Island Exodus” before launching the 2010 leg of its ‘By A Thread Tour’ in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on January 20. The tour will traverse the United States and, eventually, bring the band back to Europe for some of the biggest summer festivals.

Heralded by The New York Times for its “stomping grooves,” ‘By A Thread’ (Evil Teen) has been earning rave reviews; JamBase writes, By A Thread is “the most confident, clear record [the] guys have made,” while Rolling Stone‘s David Fricke, after a recent sneak preview concert, concludes: “the songs are ready.”

Gov’t Mule rang in the new decade at its familiar haunt of New York City’s Beacon Theatre, playing a nearly six-hour, three-set performance that fans will be taking about and listening to for years to come. With Woodstock-themed sets, Gov’t Mule welcomed special guests including Allman Brothers Band percussionist Marc Quinones and singer/actress Dana Fuchs (“Across The Universe”). The band has rung in eight of the last nine New Year’s at the Beacon, and lead singer and guitar player Warren Haynes, also a member of The Allman Brothers Band and The Dead, has graced its stage more than any other musician. Check out pics from NYE here.

A major factor to Gov’t Mule’s success is frontman Warren Haynes, who is recognized as an icon of guitar. Haynes was listed at #23 on Rolling Stone‘s list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Players of All Time and as Best Rock Guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine‘s 2009 Reader’s Poll, and his guitar work intricate continues to boggle the minds of those who hear him in concert and on record.

Listen to “Broke Down On The Brazos” (featuring Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top on “Bad-Ass Guitar”) from By a Thread here:

Download Gov’t Mule’s 12/31/09 performance, as well as EVERY show the band has played since October 2004 here: muletracks.com.

JamBase also recently voted Gov’t Mule’s “Deepest End Concert” from New Orleans in 2003 as one of The Most Important Shows of The Decade, see who else made the list here.

MIIKE SNOW ANNOUNCE FULL NORTH AMERICAN HEADLINING TOUR THIS SPRING

Tour Dates Kick Off March 22 In Atlanta and Continue Through April 15 in San Francisco

Miike Snow

Following their wildly successful tour throughout North America this fall, the Downtown Records/Universal Republic trio Miike Snow are eagerly returning to the U.S. in Spring 2010 for their second headlining tour. The tour begins March 22 in Atlanta and continues across the country, wrapping up April 15 in San Francisco.

Receiving great reception for their live translations of the highly refined electronic compositions featured on their self-titled debut, the combination of Swedish producers and multi-instrumentalists Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg, along with New York-based songwriter Andrew Wyatt, expand on their dynamic sound with a six-piece band.

The songs of Miike Snow have recently been featured on primetime TV: twice on the third season of Gossip Girl, with “Plastic Jungle” ushering in the new season and “Animal” closing out the third episode with it’s now widely known anthemic chorus. The band is now gearing up for their follow-up single to the groundbreaking debut of “Animal” with “Silvia,” an ode that follows its’ predecessors pop intelligence.
