Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti: Fall Tour Dates w/ Flaming Lips

TOUR DATES WITH THE FLAMING LIPS, PURO INSTINCT AND MAGIC KIDS

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti

Ariel Pink’s
Haunted
Graffiti
‘s 4AD debut record, Before Today, consists of twelve tracks
(including the single “Round And Round”) and was released worldwide on June 8th 2010 on
CD, LP and digital
formats.

Six months in the making, Before Today was recorded in part in Encino at the House
of Blues (once Tito
Jackson’s home studio) with Sunny Levine (Quincy Jones’ grandson) and Rik Pekkonen (Bill
Withers, Seals & Crofts,
Bread) as well as at the band’s home studios. The result is a beguiling mix of glam rock,
West Coast funk and
Merseybeat harmonies with a high-production sheen; a contrast to the corroded bedroom
recordings that have
fomented a fervent cult following over the past decade.

The outfit now consists of reclusive pop surrealist Ariel Pink (vocals) alongside
Tim Koh
(bass/vocals), Kenny Gilmore (guitar/vocals) and Aaron Sperske
(drums/vocals).

Flaming Lips Play Pink Floyd’s “Breathe” on Jimmy Fallon

BREATHE, BREATHE IN THE AIR, DON’T BE AFRAID TO CARE

This is a pretty heavy reinterpretation of Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon rumination, and it makes one excited to see The Flaming Lips (with some help from Stardeath and White Dwarfs) perform the entire album performed live at Bonnaroo and other hot spots this year.

The Lips’ version of Dark Side was released digitally last December, and last weekend as part of Record Store Day, Warner Bros. released 5000 copies of The Flaming Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs with Henry Rollins and Peaches Doing The Dark Side of the Moon on 12″ seafoam green vinyl, as well as clear vinyl versions, with a CD copy of the album included with both vinyl versions.

The Flaming Lips To Do Dark Side at Bonnaroo

The Flaming Lips To Do Dark Side of the Moon at Bonnaroo

The Flaming Lips

According to an interview at spinner.com (thanks for the tip Pitchfork), The Flaming Lips will perform Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety at this year’s Bonnaroo. In the interview singer Wayne Coyne indicated that the Lips would perform one set of their own material followed by a set of Dark Side on Friday night.

“We did it at the New Year’s Eve show just knowing everybody’s gonna be taking acid, staying awake until five in the morning,” said Coyne. “I don’t think it’ll be that much of a stretch to think Friday night at 2:30 in the morning at Bonnaroo would be that much different than being in Oklahoma City on New Year’s Eve.”

Bonnaroo will announce the entire lineup for the June 10-13 event on Tuesday, February 9.

The Flaming Lips tour dates available here.
