Mayors of Belgrade and Ljubljana Dragan Äilas and Zoran Janković singed in Ljubljana on Wednesday an agreement on the twinning of the two cities. The agreement represents the continuation of enhancing the two capitals’ good relations, and the mayor of Ljubljana delivered on the occasion a letter of support to Belgrade on its candidacy for the 2020 European Capital of Culture.

Railway joint venture in Balkans
On 1 October at noon, the first train of the multi-national Balkan railway company Kargo 10 is scheduled to leave the Slovenian capital Ljubljana.
The protocol between Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia on the creation of the joint venture was signed on 9 September. A few days later Macedonia joined the project. Montenegro wants to follow suit, although the two non-founding partners will co-operate with, but not invest in, the company.
Serbia, Slovenia, Croatia in railway deal
Serbia’s Infrastructure Minister Milutin Mrkonjić has signed an agreement on forming a joint railway company with his Slovenia and Croat counterparts. The three countries’ ministers agreed at Brdo pri Kranju, Slovenia, recently to form a railway alliance in order to make transport more efficient and profitable, and shorten the trip from Ljubljana to Istanbul from 57 to 35 hours.
Suspected Šarić group members interrogated
The interrogation of 14 people arrested under the suspicion of having ties with Darko Å arić’s cocaine smuggling group has been completed in Ljubljana. Nine of the suspects have been taken into custody while three are on house arrested and two were set free, according to local television.
Serbian, Slovenian PMs meet in Ljubljana
Serbian and Slovenian Prime Ministers Mirko Cvetković and Borut Pahor said that relations between the two countries were good.
“Relations are friendly, political cooperation has intensified, and the economic relations of the two countries are progressing despite the crisis,†Pahor said.
Gorenje Tiki workers oppose move to Serbia
Gorenje Tiki workers have signed a petition opposing the moving of the company’s production to Serbia, calling on the Slovenian government for help. The Slovenian company has, according to earlier reports, already begun moving parts of its production from Ljubljana to Stara Pazova in Serbia, where a new factory was built three years ago.
30 years since Tito’s death marked
Tuesday marks thirty years since the death of the late Yugoslav leader Josip Broz Tito. The Yugoslav Communist dictator, the former country’s president for life, and also life-long president of its only party, died on May 3, 1980, in Ljubljana.
Slovenia: Referendum on deal with Croatia
The Slovenian parliament has decided to hold an additional legislative referendum on the arbitration agreement with Croatia on June 6. The Slovenian parliament on Monday evening in Ljubljana voted unanimously to schedule the referendum.

Gorenje moves part of production to Serbia
Slovenian household appliances factory Gorenje Tiki is moving part of its production of kitchen water heaters from Ljubljana to Stara Pazova, north of Belgrade. According to Slovenian daily Delo, Gorenje is trying to cut productions costs and increase distribution outside Slovenia by moving the production.
Slovenian PM in surprise trip to Belgrade
Slovenia’s PM Borut Pahor last night suddenly left for Belgrade, Ljubljana-based daily Delo writes today. The reason for the trip is Pahor’s attempt to avoid “unpleasant surprises” as an informal regional conference opens in Slovenia on Saturday, says the newspaper.

Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor will travel to Kosovo today, it has been announced in Ljubljana. He is due to meet in Priština with the Kosovo Albanian Prime Minister Hashim Thaci, however, no details of the agenda have been officially revealed.
Slovenian airlines to reinstate flights to Belgrade
The Slovenian national air travel company Adria Airways will reinstate flights to Belgrade in March 2010, after an almost 20-year break. According to a statement from the company, the Civil Air Travel Directorate of Serbia has issued a license to the Slovenian company for establishing traffic with everyday flights between Belgrade and Ljubljana.
“Pressure can put Bosnia in danger”
Bosnian Council of Ministers Chairman Nikola Špirić says pressures on the country to over come internal problems could potentially endanger its stability. “Everyone who believes that pressure is possible in Bosnia in order to make constitutional changes, are sacrificing its stability. I do not think that this is good,†he said in Ljubljana on Wednesday after meeting with Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor.

2009 continues to be a watermark year for Dream Theater. Having achieved a #1 debut on the Billboard European chart and 12 Top Ten album chart debuts around the world including the U.S. with their 10th studio release, Black Clouds and Silver Linings (JamBase review), the progressive metal masters are currently finishing up their second European tour this year before they head down under to Australia and New Zealand.
The band recently launched the overseas leg of their “Progressive Nation” tour – hitting 15 countries – with a run of shows in Scandanavia, where audiences exceeded 5000 per venue (see the JamBase review of this year’s U.S. Progressive Nation tour here). While on tour, the band is shooting footage for their upcoming video for “Wither,” an epic power ballad from the new album. A special EP of multiple versions of “Wither” is now available via online retailers.
Dream Theater – James LaBrie (vocals), John Myung (bass), John Petrucci (guitar, vocals), Mike Portnoy (drums, percussion, vocals) and Jordan Rudess (keyboards, Continuum) – will wrap their European leg on Halloween in Ljubljana, Slovenia, after which they’ll take a month break before launching their Down Under trek December 1, with special guests TBA. This will encompass seven shows in New Zealand and Australia, wrapping December 12 in Perth.
Look for the band to head to South America in the winter-spring, followed by another U.S. leg also in the spring.

Tadić meets with Slovenia’s Pahor
President Boris Tadić spoke today with Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor on the second day of his visit to Ljubljana. On Tuesday, after talks with his Slovenian counterpart Danilo Turk, Tadić thanked Ljubljana for supporting Serbia’s aspirations to join the EU.
President on two-day visit to Slovenia
President Boris Tadić began a two-day official visit to Slovenia on Tuesday, meeting with the country’s senior officials. Tadić will also be attending and speaking at a Serbian-Slovenian business conference, meeting with officials of the Serbian community in Slovenia and visiting the Serbian Orthodox Church in Ljubljana.
