Norah Jones: 2010 Tour Dates

NORAH JONES ANNOUNCES 2010 U.S. TOUR DATES IN SUPPORT OF HER ACCLAIMED NEW ALBUM THE FALL

Norah Jones

Multiple Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Norah Jones has announced U.S. tour dates in support of her critically-acclaimed new album The Fall, which was released by EMI’s Blue Note Records on November 17. The 36-city tour will kick off March 5, 2010. All tour dates listed below. A select number of shows will go on sale beginning Friday, December 4. Ticketing information is available here.

Jones is also premiering several remixes from The Fall this week. On December 1, RCRD LBL presented “That’s What I Said (The NYC Remix by Adrock and Mike D).” On December 2, Stereogum presented “Chasing Pirates (Santigold and Snotty Remix).” On December 3, Artist Direct will present “Chasing Pirates (Droogs Remix),” which was created by a remix collective that included Beck. The remixes will be released digitally and on vinyl on January 12, 2010.

“We decided to have people I admire do some remixes,” Jones recently told Entertainment Weekly. “[Adrock and Mike D of] Beastie Boys did one, and Beck, and Santigold.” Jones first collaborated with Beastie Boys during the 2008 presidential election when they recruited her for their Get Out The Vote concerts, which also included Santigold. Jones also appeared in the season finale of 30 Rock this past May along with Mike D and Adrock. Jones and Beck first met when they performed together on KCRW’s holiday concert in 2002.

The Fall finds Jones experimenting with a new set of collaborators, including Jacquire King, a noted producer and engineer who has worked with Kings of Leon, Tom Waits, and Modest Mouse among others. Jones enlisted several songwriting collaborators, including Ryan Adams and Okkervil River‘s Will Sheff, as well as her frequent partner Jesse Harris. King also helped Jones put together a new group of musicians to perform on the album, including drummers Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) and James Gadson (Bill Withers), keyboardist James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Al Green), and guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer).

Praise for The Fall

“Jones is standing tall on The Fall… A terrific batch of songs that smartly address her recent romantic travails.” — USA Today

“Jones sounds more confident and stretches her songwriting muscle… Her continued growth as a writer, not just as singer, brings another exciting dimension to The Fall.” — Associated Press

The Fall has been billed as Norah Jones’ rock album. In fact, it’s something even more surprising: a hot-blooded soul record.” — SPIN

Alice in Chains: N. American Tour

ALICE IN CHAINS ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR, NEW SINGLE “YOUR DECISION” HITS RADIO DECEMBER 7

Alice in Chains

Alice In Chains have announced dates for a North American tour set to kick off at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver on February 2, 2010. Tickets go on sale December 4 and 5. The band is touring in support of its critically acclaimed new album Black Gives Way To Blue (Virgin/EMI), which entered Billboard’s Top 200 Albums Chart at No. 5, with first-week sales exceeding 126,000 copies.

The band’s electrifying set list will spotlight classic hits and new favorites, including new single “Your Decision,” which hits radio December 7. The band recently shot a video for the song with director Stephen Schuster, who they previously worked with for the video “A Looking In View.”

Los Angeles-based AIC fans can catch the band performing at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas show at the Gibson Amphitheatre on December 12. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, November 21 and proceeds will benefit two local charities, Para Los Ninos and the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center. On November 24, the band will also perform three songs acoustically for a special Yahoo! Maximum Performance, which can be seen on Yahoo! Music.

In other news, Alice In Chains recently released a Black Gives Way To Blue iPhone app, which features full songs from the album, music videos, news, photos, social networking and much more. The app separates itself from the pack with an impressive level of interactivity; its custom-built functionality allows fans to interact with each of the album’s 11 tracks via a touch, drag and hold feature that reveals hidden visual gems. A demo of the app (which was designed and developed by Mobile Roadie, Streetwise Concepts & Culture and EMI Music) can be viewed here.

The band (guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell, guitarist/vocalist William DuVall, drummer Sean Kinney, and bassist Mike Inez) is currently touring Europe and recently performed on the U.K. television show Later … With Jools Holland. The international dates followed a sold-out U.S. buzz tour and performances on The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien and back-to-back nights on Jimmy Kimmel Live. All three shows saw AIC perform chart-topping lead single “Check My Brain,” which hit No. 1 on the Modern, Active and Rock formats, and was hailed by Spin magazine as “one of the catchiest songs of Alice In Chains’ history.”

Nicole Fox Wins “America’s Next Top Model” Cycle 13

America’s Next Top Model is…a dork.

The redhead overcame her shyness to become the first petite-cycle winner on Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model! At 5-foot-7-inches tall, Nicole is the shortest champ in ANTM history. It was also the first-ever Top Model finale pitting two finalists against each other (there are usually three finalists). Southern [...]

Slayer, Megadeth, Testament: American Carnage Tour

SLAYER, MEGADETH TEAM UP FOR AMERICAN CARNAGE TOUR
Co-Headliners to Tour the U.S. Together For the First Time in Nearly Two Decades,
Testament to be Special Guest, Recession-Proof $10.00 Tickets Available in All U.S. Markets

Slayer

Slayer. Megadeth. Two names synonymous with fierce, crunching power. Two bands whose histories are inevitably intertwined in defining the thrash/metal genre. Megadeth and Slayer will join forces to co-headline the American Carnage tour, which will kick off on January 18 in Seattle, WA for a 26-date trek across North America that will include the six Canadian dates postponed earlier this month. Tickets for most shows go on sale this Friday, November 20. Ticketmaster is offering a special presale for most shows from Wednesday, November 18 at 10AM until Thursday, November 19 at 10PM.

American Carnage is the first time that Slayer and Megadeth will have toured the U.S. together since 1991′s epic Clash of the Titans tour. To celebrate that, and in recognition of the tough economic times that many of their fans are having, Megadeth and Slayer have decided to roll back the price of a chunk of tickets at every U.S. show to the “1991 price” of $10.00. These specially-priced tickets will be limited and when they’re gone, they’re gone. Megadeth has also teamed with iloveallaccess.com to provide an Ultimate Fan Package including premium seats, meet and greets, pre-show parties and more.

In addition, Testament, who was also on the ’91 Clash of the Titans bill, will be special guests on the entire tour, marking the first time that all three bands have shared a stage together in more than 18 years, and making this a “must see” metal event.

Both Megadeth and Slayer will hit the road supporting new albums: Megadeth’s 2009 album, ENDGAME, and Slayer’s World Painted Blood, the band’s 10th studio venture, which hit stores November 3. Testament’s The Formation of Damnation: Special Tour Edition, will be released on February 23, 2010 with special unreleased bonus tracks.

Slayer and Megadeth have already massacred territories together outside of the U.S., first with four explosive dates in June 2009 across Western Canada – Canadian Carnage – marking the first time the bands had shared a stage anywhere in 18 years; and then six co-headlining Carnage dates in Australia followed in October.

According to various Canadian press outlets last summer: “It was a night of thrash impossible to trash…” “Tales about war, death, destruction, Satan, aliens and serial killers have never been so much fun…” “The two heavy metal heavyweights…went head-to-head on a level playing field. Both bands brought their ‘A’ game. And the results were anything but pretty – unless you include pretty freakin’ loud and pretty freakin’ awesome.”

John Mayer & Spearhead Tour

JOHN MAYER ANNOUNCES “BATTLE STUDIES” TOUR WITH SPECIAL GUEST MICHAEL FRANTI & SPEARHEAD

MAYER’S NOV. 17 RELEASE TO BE CELEBRATED WITH LIVE CONCERT BROADCAST ON FUSE IN THE U.S.
AND MILITARY BASES GLOBALLY VIA ARMED FORCES NETWORK

John Mayer

There is no substitute to seeing John Mayer perform live and the release of Battle Studies later this month will kick off a North American tour beginning February 8 in Charleston, SC and feature special guest, Michael Franti & Spearhead (dates below). Tickets for the majority of dates are planned to go on sale to the general public on November 21, with an American Express card member pre-sale window from November 16-20. For those starting their holiday shopping early, a special offer on www.johnmayer.com allows fans who pre-order Battle Studies now through November 10 to access their own exclusive tour pre-sale to purchase up to 12 tickets before they’re available anywhere else.

Kicking off release week, Fuse announced that their “Fuse Presents: John Mayer Live From the Beacon Theatre,” broadcast will now be broadcast overseas to U.S. troops and their families by AFN, The Armed Forces Network, to reach those stationed in 175 countries and on 140 U.S. Navy ships at sea. Fuse, Madison Square Garden’s national music television network and Madison Square Garden Entertainment have teamed up with the American Forces Network (AFN) – now Mayer’s performance will air live on Fuse, in HD and SD, on November 17 at 9 p.m. ET in the U.S. and will be simulcast live that night via AFN Radio. Additionally, AFN Television’s “Spectrum” channel will air the concert on December 6, 2009 at 8 p.m. and on New Year’s Eve.

In addition to an intimate performance of his current single, “Who Says” on the Today Show on Thursday, November 19, Mayer has another special event up his sleeve with The Late Show with David Letterman. Mayer will perform as Letterman’s musical guest, and then take over the studio for an extended concert for fans that will be webcast on Letterman’s website. On November 19, Mayer will appear on The Late Show as both a sit-in artist with Paul Shaffer and the CBS Orchestra and as the show’s musical guest before performing a post-show fan concert, which will stream live and remain online through the beginning of the Battle Studies Tour. Other television appearances and special announcements are planned for December, including The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Jay Leno Show and Larry King Live.

Battle Studies is the fourth studio album from the seven-time Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter/guitar player/producer and incorporates the warmth, melodies and simplicity of 70′s and 80′s California rock and pop. Battle Studies is a confessional, relaxed and liberated album recorded in a private home in California where Mayer lived and worked over the course of six months before wrapping at the famed Capitol Studios in Los Angeles. The album was co-produced by John Mayer and Steve Jordan and will be released on November 17, 2009 on Columbia Records.

JJ Grey & Mofro: Tour

JJ Grey & Mofro Announce North American Tour

Dates With Derek Trucks And Susan Tedeschi Followed By Two-Month Co-Bill With Shooter Jennings

JJ Grey & Mofro

JJ Grey & Mofro, the Jacksonville, Florida-based swamp, blues, rock, funk, and soul band, have announced quite a massive North American fall tour. In addition to headlining theatre and festival dates, the band will share dates with blues guitarist/vocalist Susan Tedeschi and guitarist Derek Trucks. Then, in late September and running through November, JJ Grey & Mofro will embark on a co-headlining tour with country rock outlaw Shooter Jennings and special guest Earl Greyhound.

Grey’s most recent album, Orange Blossoms, has been hailed by USA Today as “intoxicating North Florida blues-rock, with hints of Memphis, Muscle Shoals and garage-band music.” In every song he writes and sings, Grey exudes rocking, funky, melodic front-porch realism. He comes from a long tradition of Southern musical storytellers. His multi-textured music is filled with dynamic rhythms and thought-provoking lyrics. From raw funk to deep soul, blues and rock, JJ and his band, both on CD and live, are simply devastating. Debuting in 2001 with Blackwater, following up in 2004 with Lochloosa, Grey steadily found more and more success. With his two recent releases, 2007′s Country Ghetto and 2008′s Orange Blossoms, along with non-stop touring, JJ Grey is taking his ever-growing fan base along for the ride of their lives.

Brother Ali Tour, MP3 &:Album w/ Chuck D & Ant

Brother Ali Announces New Album And North American Tour

Brother Ali

Brother Ali‘s last album, the critically acclaimed, The Undisputed Truth, was an album of bold statements and social awareness without being preachy. Ali’s new album, Us, Street Date September 22, has turned his gaze inward and starts to examine the human condition from the outside in. A profound, personal glimpse into a vulnerability seldom seen or heard in music, Us touches on the strengths and flaws of the human condition, exploring drug abuse, divorce, homophobia and many more topics that most people are scared to touch in their own lives, much less on an album for the world to see.

As with previous endeavors, the beats here are courtesy of Ant (of Atmosphere), whose production work seems to be getting more soulful and lush by the minute. The guest appearances only accentuate Brother Ali’s strengths, with Chuck D, Freeway, Joell Ortiz and Stokley Williams of Mint Condition making strong appearances.

In support of the new album, Ali is embarking on a North American tour of epic proportions, enlisting the help of labelmates and collaborators Evidence (of Dilated Peoples), BK One and Toki Wright.

Peep the video for the fist single “Us,” it’s pretty dope. And you can download “Us” for free here:

Lou Barlow Readies His Solo Release And Preps For Tour

Lou Barlow

On October 6, Merge Records will release Lou Barlow‘s new album, Goodnight Unknown. In the four years since his career-redefining, mostly acoustic record Emoh, Lou Barlow has reunited with Dinosaur Jr. and reissued three of Sebadoh‘s classic albums. But as the brilliant new Goodnight Unknown illustrates, he’s hardly living in the past. Borrowing the live-band energy of Dinosaur Jr. and the stylistic reach of Sebadoh, Barlow has built on Emoh‘s full production and written a set of immediate, melodic pop songs that Lou describes as, “a cross between my later work with Folk Implosion and my earlier work with Sebadoh… to my ears, anyway.”

From the surging opening track “Sharing” to the surprisingly soulful performances on “The Right,” Goodnight Unknown benefits from Barlow’s tunefulness and his decision to record the record relatively quickly, with old friends and new. The MelvinsDale Crover adds inspired drum work throughout, and Goodnight Unknown‘s urgent sound owes just as much to frequent Barlow collaborator Imaad Wasif (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Alaska!). The record’s considerable power also stems from the new talents on board, including producer Andrew Murdock and Lisa Germano.

Lou Barlow + The Missingmen will be on tour throughout the fall opening for Dinosaur Jr. The Missingmen are guitarist Tom Watson and drummer Raul Morales. Lou “stole” them from Mike Watt for this tour, and is excited to be bringing you the full band experience of Goodnight Unknown.
