Chicago’s Smith Westerns
will release its sophomore LP, Dye It Blonde, on Fat Possum on Jan. 18. The first single from the
record is “Weekend” which fans can listen to here.

The record was produced by Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, !!!, TVOTR, Beach House, etc.) in New York
City. The
band is currently in Europe on tour with MGMT, and today announced a slew of early 2011 dates, including two NYC
dates in Jan and later dates with the UK band and Fat Possum labelmates Yuck.

They’ll spin the album on a new Denon
100 turntable, manufactured to commemorate Denon’s 100th anniversary.

Wanda Jackson: New Jack White Produced LP

THE QUEEN OF ROCK UNVEILS HER NEW ALBUM JANUARY 25

Third Man and Nonesuch Records announce the release of the new album from Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Wanda Jackson. The Party
Ain’t Over, produced by her friend Jack White, will be out January 25, 2011.

The two teamed up last year to record a 45rpm single for White’s Third Man Records. The vinyl and iTunes release, a
cover of Amy Winehouse‘s Â“You Know
I’m No GoodÂ” b/w Â“Shakin All OverÂ” was a big success and the pair hatched a plan to record a full-length album.

The Party Ain’t Over was recorded in Nashville at White’s studio, where he brought together a formidable
band, including himself, Jack Lawrence (The Dead Weather/Raconteurs), Carl Broemel (My
Morning Jacket), Patrick Keeler (Raconteurs), Ashley Monroe, Jackson Smith and
Karen Elson, to name a few, and hand picked the songs – 11 tracks dating in origin from the early 1900′s
to 2007. The result: a retro modern collection of music that showcases Wanda, now in her seventh decade and
sounding as wickedly charismatic as ever.

This past winter iconic singer Mavis
Staples joined Jeff
Tweedy in Wilco‘s
Chicago studio, The Loft, where Tweedy wrote two new songs for the soul/gospel legend and produced her
forthcoming album You Are Not Alone, out September 14 on Anti-Records.

“I have almost everything she’s ever recorded, and I dug back through very thoroughly when I was given this job to
do,” says Tweedy. “I thought that if I refreshed myself about where she’s been, it would help her figure out where
she wanted to go. I wanted to be sure that we were making a record that she really wanted to make.”

“You Are Not Alone,” the title track, was written by Tweedy. This is a very personal song for Mavis, as she shed some
tears singing it. Though the ballad can be sung for anyone (a lover, a sibling, a friend, a child), Mavis had her father,
Pops Staples in mind when she belted out the emotional lyrics. Mavis also pours her soul into the other Tweedy
composition, “Only the Lord Knows.” “That was our political song,” she says “You talk to this one, listen to that one,
pick up the paper, but you can’t get any answers. The White House, the church–I can’t get any straight answers to
the things I want to know. So for now, we’re on our own, and we have to go to the Lord. He’s the only one who
knows.”

This summer Mavis Staples will play the Toronto Jazz Fest on June 30, Lollapalooza on August 6, and the Wilco-
curated Solid Sound Festival at Mass MoCa on August 14, with additional US and European tour dates to be
announced soon.

Steve Miller Band: First New Studio LP in 15 Years

Roadrunner/Loud & Proud Records has announced a new deal with the Steve Miller Band and Miller’s new imprint Space Cowboy Records. Recorded at film producer George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch, Bingo! (arriving June 15) is the band’s first studio album in 17 years. A true return to Miller’s roots, Bingo! echoes his early years in the Chicago music scene and features carefully chosen and crafted tracks performed in distinctive Steve Miller Band fashion.

“With the continuing evolution of the music industry and all the new exciting opportunities that are available, I feel this is a perfect time to start a new record company and establish new innovative partnerships. I am looking forward to a long relationship with Roadrunner / Loud & Proud” says Miller of the new endeavor.

Early reaction from fans and industry insiders are comparing the album to Miller’s 1968 masterpiece Sailor. Bingo!, will be the first of two albums that were recorded together as a complete body of work, the second of which will be offered next year via the new label partnership.

Bingo! was co-produced by Andy Johns (Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Van Halen), with artwork designed by the legendary Storm Thorgerson. These recordings feature longtime Steve Miller Band member Norton Buffalo, who sadly passed away in 2009.

Dead Confederate Release Free Live LP

Dead Confederate Release Free Live LP

Dead Confederate just wrapped up their 2009 tour through Europe with Alberta Cross and finished in the United Kingdom with J Mascis and the Fog . Dead Confederate was touring in support of their release Wrecking Ball.

The band is now offering a free download of a new Live LP, DIRTY AMMO. Click HERE or visit www.dirtyammo.com to get the free album. The material was recorded live at The Earl in Atlanta, GA this past May and features seven tracks in total. The LP showcases the band’s signature live intensity on four original songs (from the bands EP and studio album) and one previously un-released new song, “Guns,” as well as two covers – Elliott Smith’s “Roman Candle” and Officer May’s “Smoking a Minor.” The LP will also be available with an optional $1 donation to help rebuild the Georgia Theater, which was destroyed by fire in June 2009. There is an additional option to buy a vinyl copy of the album as well as a t-shirt.

Origin:Orphan was recorded in Berlin, Germany and Toronto, and delves into new musical territory. The dark synths of the title track and dominant orchestration of “Walk On” counterbalance the upbeat playfulness of “In The NA” and “Underage.” The Hidden Cameras, who have always been known for their celebratory live performances, often take to churches and art galleries, with forty-piece dance troupes. The Band even performed in Munich, Germany during the halftime of a Bayern-Munich soccer game in front of a crowd of over 100,000.

Ladies and gentlemen, The Aliens have landed. Armed with a bottomless bag of psychedelically inclined rock and acid dipped electronics, The Aliens bring a freedom of spirit that sets them out from the current crop of guitar slingers. Inspired by Sergio Leone and Serge Gainsbourg, Brian Eno and Brian Wilson, Larry David and Ol’ Dirty Bastard, their songs reference the past whilst belonging resolutely to the future.

The Aliens are creating a special limited-edition 50-page hard cover book, all color, and pop-up book which will also house the still un-named record. The book will include drawings, poems, film stills, photographs and interviews all done in the standard Alien manor. The book will be available for pre-order in September.

Formed in 2005 these Aliens have history – between them they have been behind some of the most enthralling British music of the last decade. John Maclean and Robin Jones where members of the Beta Band. Gordon Anderson was a founding Beta Band member who went on to record two albums under the Lone Pigeon moniker.

In March 2007 they released their first album Astronomy For Dogs to a hearty round of applause from the critics scoring 4 and 5 stars across the board. It’s a rich and vibrant carpet ride that crosses almost every musical genre one can imagine. Woven from the threads of Gordon’s genuine heartfelt songs and created on a loom of laser-light fibre-optics.

In September 2008 they made a welcome return with the release of Luna on their own label Petrock Records. They managed to deliver an album that manages to outshine their widely acclaimed debut.

The Aliens are always a thrilling proposition live, expect the unexpected…. it’s an unmissable, fist-in-mouth experience that showcases the band’s infectious energy and their frontman’s magnetism.
