M1 posts fourth-quarter profit of $37.2m

MobileOne, Singapore’s smallest phone company, reported fourth-quarter net income of $37.2 million. Analysts had anticipated profit of $33.9 million, based on estimates compiled by Bloomberg.

M1 to launch iPhone 3GS this Wednesday

M1 says it will launch iPhone 3GS in Singapore on Wednesday together with a range of new 3G tariff plans, including iPhone at no upfront cost on the Take3 programme and monthly subscriptions as low as $36 on the iPhone Value plan.

The phone will be available at 12 M1 shops and six dealer shops throughout Singapore.

US stocks slid last night as another batch of economic data pointed to the fragility of the recovery and a brokerage’s dim view on the semiconductor sector hit technology shares.

Singapore Airlines (SIA SP): Tiger Airways Pte, the budget carrier partly owned by Singapore Airlines, is considering an initial public offering of at least US$500 million ($694 million) next year, the Wall Street Journal reported. Also, airlines may have to compensate passengers on flights that are delayed for more than three hours, the European Court of Justice ruled yesterday in cases involving Air France SA and Germany’s Condor Flugdienst GmbH. Singapore Airlines fell 0.1% to $14.12.

US stocks finished higher on Friday as investors focused on the bright side of a mixed payrolls report that showed smaller than expected job cuts in August, although unemployment rate hit a 26-year high. The Dow Jones industrial Average (.DJI) rose 1.03% to 9,441.27, while the Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC) rose 1.79% to 2,018.78.
 

Palm oil suppliers: Crude palm oil for November delivery dropped 7.3% in Kuala Lumpur last week. Wilmar International (WIL SP), the world’s biggest palm oil trader, added 1.1%to $6.45 on Sept. 4. Golden Agri-Resources (GGR SP), the world’s second-biggest palm oil producer, gained 1.1% to 46.5 cents. Indofood Agri Resources  (IFAR SP), the palm oil unit of Indonesia’s biggest noodle maker, fell 1.8% to $1.62.
