AutoCAD 2011 for Mac takes the market-leading tool for which Autodesk is famous and couples it with an interface that remains true to the Mac environment. The software recognizes multitouch gestures on supported input hardware, and it’s possible to browse AutoCAD files in the Mac OS X Finder with the Cover Flow option. It includes support for the company’s AutoLISP programming language and ObjectARX extension applications, as well as the command line interface that allows users to bypass the software’s menus and palettes and enter commands directly for ultimate efficiency. This is a complete rewrite of the application for the Mac, and many potential customers will focus on what’s missing, especially in the areas of layering and workflow. Apple today announced financial results for its fiscal 2011 first quarter ended December 25, 2010. The Company posted record revenue of $26.74 billion and record net quarterly profit of $6 billion, or $6.43 per diluted share. These results compare to revenue of $15.68 billion and net quarterly profit of $3.38 billion, or $3.67 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter. Gross margin was 38.5 percent compared to 40.9 percent in the year-ago quarter. International sales accounted for 62 percent of the quarter’s revenue. “We had a phenomenal holiday quarter with record Mac, iPhone, and iPad sales,†said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We are firing on all cylinders, and we’ve got some exciting things in the pipeline for this year, including iPhone 4 on Verizon, which customers can’t wait to get their hands on.â€

Google Chrome takes another step toward enterprise suitability with enterprise-ready installation packages and configuration options that will allow IT administrators to centrally manage the availability, freshness and operational behavior of Googles Web browser. In December, Google released a new Windows installer package compatible with standard enterprise software deployment tools, along with a set of new policy templates for use with Windows Active Directory (along with some deployment help for Linux and Mac desktops as well).
