As the film makes clear, Americans suffer the same pain and psychological damage when they lose their jobs as Europeans do, says Sir Martin, the boss of WPP, the world’s biggest advertising and marketing group. But America downsizes fast when the economy falters, whereas in Europe restructuring takes years.
