Mainboard-listed LMA International NV, the provider of supraglottic airway management devices, says it is in advanced talks to acquire Wolfe Tory Medical, a Salt Lake City, Utah-based manufacturer and distributor of medical devices.

The expected cash consideration for the acquisition is US$13.1 million ($17.3 million), plus additional deferred payments based on the 2012 trailing sales of two new products that will be introduced in 2011. But the proposed acquisition will not include Wolfe Tory Medical’s critical care product, AbViser.

Hi-P soars on higher profit forecast

Shares of Singapore electronics contract manufacturer Hi-P International (HIPI.SI) rose 15.4% to a record high today after it forecast higher revenue and profit this year.

Hi-P shares were traded at $1.01 at 10:30 a.m., with over 5.6 million changing hands.

Oriental Food to acquire China steel product manufacturer for $5m

Oriental Food (Holdings) says the company, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Oriental Investments Group, has entered into a conditional share sale and purchase agreement to acquire the entire issued and paid up share capital of Jiangyin Dingsheng Jinshu Yayan Co. from vendor Li Yi for RMB25 million ($4.9 million).

RMB20 million will be paid to the vendor within one month from the completion of the proposed acquisition with the balance to be paid within six months from the completion of the acquisition.

Apple Finds Violations During 2009 Supplier and Manufacturer Audit

Apple discovered 17 violations of its Code of Conduct during a 2009 audit of 102 manufacturers and suppliers, including the employment of underage workers. Apple issued a report, posted on its Website, detailing the violations and the steps taken to correct them. Apple also used the report to emphasize how it trains workers and supervisors in meeting the companys standards for safety and labor, including rights and obligations under contract law.

manufacturers, according to a recently issued 2010 progress report on supplier

Sino Techfibre bags $9.3m contract to supply polyurethane leather to Shangdong fashion manufacturer

Sino Techfibre, the leading producer of microfibre, polyurethane (PU) synthetic leather and pattern moulding paper (PMP) in China, says the group has clinched a major contract worth RMB45.1 million ($9.3 million) from Shandong Mingjun Textile & Garment Co. for PU synthetic leather to be used for the manufacture of belts and shoes. Flextronics boosts hiring in China as electronics demand rises

Flextronics International, a manufacturer of electronics for other companies, will increase hiring in its factories in China by about 10% next year to cope with rising customer orders, an executive said.
 
The contract manufacturer plans to hire 40,000 people in its China plants in 2010, Grace Wong, vice-president of human resources for Asia, said by phone today. At least 35,000 workers were recruited in the country this year, she said.

Apple manufacturer Foxconn, which produces the companys iPods and iPhones, plans to compensate the family of engineer Sun Danyong, who fell to his death on July 16 after a fourth-generation iPhone prototype in his possession disappeared. Apple Investigated Foxconn Complaints Before iPhone Suicide Case

Apple is wrestling with a public-relations crisis caused by the loss of a next-generation iPhone prototype and the death of a 25-year-old employee of Foxconn, Chinese manufacturer of Apple iPhones and iPods. In 2006, Apple audited Foxconn’s working conditions after a British newspaper suggested that the factory violated labor practices, and found that the manufacturer asked excessive hours of its workers.
