Singapore shares may rise on Tuesday after Wall Street climbed overnight in its first session of the year, buoyed by strong U.S. manufacturing data. Singapore’s benchmark Straits Times Index <.FTSTI> rose 1.43% on Monday to 3,235.77 points. Here are some stocks and factors to watch:

Singapore’s ship-chartering firm Marco Polo Marine (MAPM.SI) said on Monday it plans to issue Taiwan depository receipts (TDR) to broaden its investor base.
Marco Polo Marine is in the process of hiring external financial institutions to begin preparatory work for the TDR issue and it will apply for regulatory approval with the relevant Taiwanese authorities, the firm said.
It will decide further details of the proposed TDR issue at a later stage, Marco Polo Marine said in a statement.

Singapore shares may open lower on Tuesday after Wall Street slipped overnight as concerns the Federal Reserve may scale back its efforts to stimulate the economy muted optimism over two big takeover bids.

DMG & Partners Research in a Sep 7 research report says: “Marco Polo Marine’s (MPM’s) wholly-owned subsidiary, Marco Polo Shipping Co Pte Ltd (MPSP) has secured a one-year coal shipment contract worth ~$4 million.

CapitaMalls Asia (CMA SP): The shopping mall operator said it and parent CapitaLand (CAPL SP) won a tender for a site in the eastern Singapore town of Bedok. The partners will pay the government $788.9 million for the property, which will be developed into a residential and retail complex. CapitaMalls was unchanged at $2.21. CapitaLand rose 1% to $3.98.

Marco Polo Marine, theintegrated marine logistic group, says wholly-owned subsidiary, MP Shipping Co Pte Ltd (MPS), has secured a 2-year coal shipment contract worth about US$15.5 million ($21 million).
The coal shipment contract is secured with an Indonesia coal miner and will commence from September 2010. Under the contract, the group will undertake the shipment of coal from Sumatra in Indonesia to West Malaysia over a period of 2 years.
Mainboard-listed Marco Polo Marine, the integrated marine logistic group, says the group recorded a 39% increase in revenue from $15.8 million in 3Q FY2009 to $22.0 million in 3Q FY2010 due to improved performance from both ship chartering and shipyard operations.
The increase also contributed to 9M FY2010 revenue growth of 24% to $49.5 million. For the 9-month period, ship chartering revenue rose 46% to $26.5 million as the group expanded its operating fleet size from 46 to 60 (excluding the 24 vessels co-owned with Glencore International under MPST Marine Pte Ltd). Revenue from shipyard operations gained 6% to $23 million mainly due to higher ship repair activities following the full operations of the two dry docks from the beginning of FY2010.
