Jimmy Herring is hittting
the road with his current line-up, featuring Herring on guitar, drummer Jeff Sipe (Aquarium Rescue Unit,
Jazz is Dead, Shawn Lane), keyboardist Matt Slocum (Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks), and Neal
Fountain on bass (Col Bruce Hampton, Alex Machacek). Tour dates are below.
The Jimmy Herring Band will be performing a wide range of material, including compositions from Herring’s long-
awaited and much-acclaimed 2008 solo debut Lifeboat.
“The music for the upcoming tour will be a mixed bag. Some stuff from the album and some covers I have always
wanted to play- Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Frank Zappa among others. Hopefully there will be
enough freedom for everyone to relax and have equal creative input. One thing I learned from Bruce Hampton is,
the simpler the music, the easier it is to reinterpret it each time you play it.”
Herring, who toured this summer with drummer Lenny White (Miles Davis, Return To Forever) will be one
of the
headliners at the New Universe Music Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina on November 20-21 as well as performing
there with The Lenny White Group and paying a tribute to guitar icon John McLaughlin with
whom he co-bills the
House of Blues concert in Boston on November 16.

Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra Premiere Video and Announce U.S. Tour in Support of New Album, Kollaps Tradixionales
Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra
Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra (SMZ) returns with its sixth full-length recording and first since the band’s lineup change in summer 2008. Having shed three members and recruiting a new drummer, the group officially dropped the “Tra-La-La Band” from its name, played a debut performance as a newly minted quintet at All
Tomorrow’s Parties in upstate NY, and embarked on an extensive European tour through the Fall of 2008. As Kollaps Tradixionales ably demonstrates, the band has lost none of its raw and frazzled anthemic power and continues to forge bold new ground in its search for a unique hybrid of punk, blues, psych, folk and modern orchestral idioms.
Kollaps Tradixionales is available on standard CD (in a custom gatefold paperboard jacket) and limited-edition deluxe CD (which is packaged together with a 6″x9″ 16-page perfect-bound art book and poster). The album also comes in a deluxe first pressing on double 10″ vinyl, with the art book, a CD copy, and two different posters
inside. The album is also available digitally. You can purchase the album here.

After conceiving the project over a decade ago, former My Morning Jacket guitarist Johnny Quaid is finally releasing the dreamlike, southern-flavored debut effort by The Ravenna Colt. The album, titled, Slight Spell, is now available through Removador Recordings and Solutions, the label Quaid recently co-founded with MMJ frontman Jim James.
After six years as a part of MMJ, Louisville, KY native Quaid parted amicably with the band in 2004 and headed off to California. Eventually Quaid headed back east and reacquainting himself with his roots. Fittingly, the music he has written as The Ravenna Colt reflects his style in Americana with a hint of cosmic breeze that emanates from California.
The Ravenna Colt currently includes Phil Carlson, J. Brent Stuart and Daniel T. Mohler as members, but the group has always been a shape-shifting entity with the only constant force being Quaid at the helm. This collective-like quality translates to the music as well, which has beautifully amorphous feel. The songs on Slight Spell have definitive cores, but ones that seem capable of adapting to various musicians and arrangements. Quaid has the soul of a troubadour. One can picture him with nothing but an acoustic guitar strapped to his back, traveling from town to town to share his music and his adventures.
Listen to The Ravenna Colt tracks and get a free download at removador.com.

The band’s new single “Song Away” hits Alternative radio on February 9 and the video was named one of the best of 2009 by iTunes as part of iTunes Rewind 2009. Hockey’s breakout first single “Too Fake” reached #25 at alternative radio and is still being spun at many stations around the country.
Hockey played their first New York City show last January and have since toured the globe non-stop, including the U.K. three times, U.S. festivals SXSW, Sasquatch!, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza and CMJ, and almost every major European festival including Glastonbury, Hove, Peace and Love, Eurockenees, Solidays, Oxegen, T In The Park and Gurtenfestival, Leeds and Reading.
Additionally they have performed on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, Fuel TV‘s Daily Habit, and on Later With Jools Holland and Live From Abbey Road in the U.K. Hockey’s Live From Abbey Road appearance will air in the U.S. on the Sundance Channel March 26.
Formed in Los Angeles five years ago by lead singer Ben Grubin and bassist Jeremy “Jerm” Reynolds, Hockey is now based in Portland, OR as a quartet with Brian White on guitar and Anthony Stassi on drums.

The Low Anthem
After returning from an extensive European tour last week, Rhode Island trio The Low Anthem are preparing to continue on in the U.S. in support of their Nonesuch debut, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin. After a performance at Austin City Limits, and a homecoming show at the beautiful Avon Cinema in Providence, the band will be making their west coast debut with Portland group Blind Pilot, before finishing out the end of the year with Josh Ritter.
In celebration of their return to the states, the band is offering a cover of Bob Dylan‘s “Dignity” on their website for FREE mp3 Download in exchange for people joining their mailing list. The song “Dignity” was first released on Greatest Hits Volume Three. The band played it often during soundcheck, finally recording it in at a studio in Amsterdam for a radio show.

That’s why our mailing list has earned rave four star reviews from major publications such as “Horse and Hound” and “Modern Tubist.” TheSchmaltzWithinYou.com calls our web-blasts “sincere and informative.” And heres the deal breaker. When you sign up now, you will receive freely our cover of Bob Dylan’s “Dignity,” which we recorded at Studio Le Roy in Amsterdam, NL. All that value! What are you waiting for?
The Low Anthem has spent the greater part of the year touring with acts such as Elvis Perkins In Dearland, Joe Pug, Ray LaMontagne, Josh Ritter, and Langhorne Slim in support of their highly praised Nonesuch debut, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin. Their tours have taken them through a number of prestigious festivals, including Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, and the recent 50th Anniversary of the Newport Folk Festival, where they had humble beginnings working as recycling crew. This time around they got to share the stage with some of their heroes, including Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, and Gillian Welch during a group sing-along.
Paste has named Oh My God, Charlie Darwin one of the best albums of 2009 so far, the album was a New York Times Critic’s Pick, and NPR’s Bob Boilen coined the song “Charlie Darwin” the best of the year so far.

LOW ANTHEM CONTINUE WORLD TOUR WITH WEST COAST DEBUT, DATES WITH BLIND PILOT
The Low Anthem
It’s been a banner year for The Low Anthem. In addition to being JamBase’s New Favorite Artist this month, the Rhode Island trio spent the greater part of the year touring with acts such as Elvis Perkins In Dearland, Joe Pug, Ray LaMontagne, Josh Ritter, and Langhorne Slim in support of their highly praised Nonesuch debut, Oh My God, Charlie Darwin, the band is gearing up for yet another stretch on the road, this time with the Portland group Blind Pilot. This run of 21 club and theater dates begins October 15 and continues through November 12 and includes the band’s West coast debut. Additionally, The Low Anthem will return to NYC for a performance at the Bell House at the end of August and travel to Europe for a month-long tour in September, where they’ve already played to much enthusiasm at Glastonbury, sold out a show at Union Chapel in London, and received stellar reviews in Uncut, Q, Mojo, NME, The Guardian, and The Independent.
The very special Avon Cinema in Providence, RI is hosting the first October U.S. tour date. The Cinema is a beautiful old movie theatre, the perfect setting for the band’s anticipated homecoming show and largest performance in Providence to date. The band will also be playing a free show on Block Island, where they recorded Charlie Darwin.
The Low Anthem’s most recent tour has taken them through a number of prestigious festivals, including Bonnaroo, Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, and the recent 50th Anniversary of the Newport Folk Festival, where they had humble beginnings working as recycling crew. This time around they got to share the stage with some of their heroes, including Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, and Gilian Welch during a group sing-along.
THE LOW ANTHEM PRESS:
“Only a band since 2006, the depth of songwriting and ability to cross the dusty Americana landscape from such burdened acoustic folk songs like “To Ohio” to country barnburners, delicate three-part harmonies dripping with reverb, a Tom Waits cover, and soul-saving gospel without loosing continuity makes The Low Anthem worthy of all the hype they are sure to receive…” – JamBase
“Stately… Lyrics contemplating faith, loss, destruction and self-destruction.” – New York Times
“One of the breakthrough albums of 2009… A highly eventful journey into American songcraft, variously echoing Dylan, Springsteen, The Band, and Tom Waits.” – MOJO
“Really beautiful… The great music, it’s not what you play; it’s what you don’t play.” – Billy Bragg (PROJO)
