Yahoo July 1 launched Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Messenger applications for Android as well as a search widget for the operating system created by Google for smartphones, tablets and other mobile computing devices. The apps will work on devices such as Google’s Nexus One, the Motorola Droid and forthcoming Motorola Droid X, the HTC Droid Incredible, and the HTC Evo 4G. Microsoft had a busy week on the intellectual-property front, entering into an agreement with HTC that will see the phone manufacturer license Microsoft’s patented technology for uses in smartphones running Google Android. Microsoft responds to Yahoo’s Aug. 24 announcement of upgrades for users by insisting that it had already integrated many of Yahoo’s new features, including search results from social networking sites such as Facebook, into its offerings for Windows Live.
