Macworld Shows Off a Slew of Creative, Colorful New Products

Some 270 Apple products vendors& the highest number in the 27-year history of the Macworld Expo& and upwards of 20,000 attendees were on hand Jan. 27 for the three-day event at Moscone West in San Francisco. That is, all except Apple itself, which is MIA for the second year. Macworld President Paul Kent told eWEEK that about one-third of the vendors and half the attendees are new to the event this year, a clear indicator that Apple is reaching new stature in the world market with the iPhone 4 and iPad products it released in 2010. On the show floor, a flurry of color and activity could be found on Day 1, with new music-, photo- and storage-related products; an iPad-connected smart-card reader; a Macintosh-run PBX phone system; a clever write-on-paper, show-on-screen classroom system for teachers; and a video-sharing application for iPhones and iPads. Entertainment this year includes comedian Sinbad and Dream Theater keyboardist Jordan Rudness, who will demo his Morphwhiz music application, which is an iPad synthesizer he uses in live performances. Incident on Albania-Macedonia border

festival, selecting relevant, important and eclectic headliners to represent this year’s free show. This morning, Sir
Richard Branson, chairman of the Virgin Group, announced the lineup on Virgin Mobile Live, the company’s new
Internet music stream available on Virgin

2010 Virgin Mobile FreeFest will be available to the public on www.ticketfly.com at 10 a.m. EDT on Saturday, July 24. Virgin Mobile
customers and previous Virgin Mobile Festival ticket holders from the past four years will be invited via text and e-
mail to a private Â“free-saleÂ” (much like a pre-sale, except free) to be held Friday, July 23.

In addition to two main stages, a dance forest filled with inspired music, and a special second line march from stage
to stage with Trombone
Shorty, the festival also brings attention and support to homeless youth shelters
across the country. This year, The RE*Generation, Virgin Mobile’s charitable initiative to end youth homelessness, is
encouraging fans to make a $5 donation and in return receive a 2010 Virgin Mobile FreeFest mix produced by
Rusko. The download will
mash up select bands in the lineup to create a unique 20-minute mix. The DJ
mix will be available for pre-order on Friday during the pre-sale with every $5 donated to youth homelessness.
