Albanian PM furious at CoE rapporteur

Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha has hurled more serious accusations at Council of Europe (CoE) Rapporteur Dick Marty.

Following the adoption of the report on the human organ trafficking by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), he referred to the Swiss senator’s report a “racist”, and said that the “anti-Albanian propaganda had started in Serbia under Slobodan MiloÅ¡ević”.

10 years since Đinđić cabinet forming

The tenth anniversary of the forming of the first democratic Serbian government after October 5 changes, which was headed by Zoran ĐinÄ‘ić, is marked today. ĐinÄ‘ić, who was at the helm of the Democratic Party (DS), at the time told MPs that, after the ousting of Slobodan MiloÅ¡ević and his regime, Serbia “has once again took its faith into its own hands,” and that his government “obtained a mandate for changes from the people on the streets of Serbia.”

“ĐinÄ‘ić cabinet planned Kosovo’s partition”

Former high-ranking member of the Democratic Party (DS) and former Serbian PM Zoran Živković says there were plans in the early 2000s to partition Kosovo. In an interview for Belgrade’s Vreme weekly, Živković said the first post-MiloÅ¡ević era government “would’ve fallen anyway, even if Zoran ĐinÄ‘ić had not been killed”.

Real economic growth 1.5 percent

The 2010 real economic growth rate will amount to around 1.5 percent and will be lower than the planned 1.8 to 2 percent.
Meanwhile, the inflation rate will reach 10 or 11 percent, President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) Miloš Bugarin stated at a session of the PKS Managing Board on Friday.

Serbia “ready to arrest Assange”

Reports suggest that Julian Assange is in the UK – but should he show up in Serbia, he would be arrested, the public has been reassured.
Serbia’s Interpol office chief MiloÅ¡ Oparica told Belgrade daily Blic that this would happen since foreign citizens can be arrested and extradited without any impediment, “unless the charges against them were political”.

Serbian economy “could grow 2.5%”

Serbia’s 1.5 percent economic growth in the first nine months of 2010 indicates the number could reach 2.5 percent by the end of the year. This would be the best result in the region, said head of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce (PKS) MiloÅ¡ Bugarin.

Ex-Slovenian president “can’t save Bosnia”

Milorad Dodik says he is not in favor of ex-Slovenian President Milan Kučan becoming the Slovenian government’s special representative in Bosnia.
Dodik, who was recently elected president of the Serb entity in Bosnia, RS, says he does not see how Kučan, who in the early 1990s worked with Serbian and Croatian leaders Slobodan Milošević and Franjo Tuđman to destroy Yugoslavia (SFRJ), could now help Bosnia-Herzegovina.

“Serbia made most progress 2004-2008″

Opposition DSS leader Vojislav Koštunica said on Tuesday that the biggest progress Serbia made since October 5, 2000 was achieved between 2004 and 2008. Koštunica, who ran on the DOS ticket to defeat Slobodan Milošević in the Sept. 24, 2000 election and become president of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SRJ), was subsequently Serbian prime minister for two terms from 2004 until 2008.

10 years since fall of Milošević regime

Today marks ten years since the fall of Slobodan MiloÅ¡ević’s regime, brought about by demonstrations staged on October 5, 2000. An estimated half a million people from all over Serbia took to the streets that day to protest, led by the 18-party opposition coalition dubbed DOS (the Democratic Opposition of Serbia), in a bid to force MiloÅ¡ević to concede his defeat in the presidential elections held on September 24, 2000.

Indictment changed against Milošević widow

The High Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade has changed the indictment against Mirjana Marković. She is the the widow of former President of Serbia and the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia Slobodan MiloÅ¡ević.

Court sentences journalist attackers

Miloš Mladenović and Danilo Žuža have been sentenced to three months in prison for attacking journalist of Belgrade-based weekly Vreme Teofil Pančić. Mladenović and Žuža were found guilty of violent behavior. They have been were released from custody, but are not allowed to leave their place of residence.

Serbia stuns Spain, heads to semis

The Serbian basketball squad upset reigning world champion Spain on Wednesday, moving on to the semifinals of the FIBA World Championships. The win was sealed with a stunning long distance three-point shot by Miloš Teodosić with three seconds to go, giving Serbia a 92:89 victory.

Partition of Bosnia unacceptable

International High Representative in Bosnia-Herzegovina Valentin Inzko says a partition of the country would be a posthumous victory for Slobodan Milošević. He said that this would not be accepted either by “Bosniaks or the international community.

Šešelj sues Hague prosecution

Serb Radical Party (SRS) leader Vojislav Šešelj has submitted contempt of court against the prosecution to the Hague Tribunal President Patrick Robinson. Šešelj made this move after learning that Miodrag Lukovac had given false testimony in the proceeding against Slobodan Milošević, after being pressured and blackmailed by the prosecution, his party said today.
