MUP: Several murders prevented

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić says that Serbia’s police (MUP) have prevented “several liquidations”. According to him, the murders were planned by the recently arrested gang led by Darko Elez.

Five workers arrested over arms plant blast

Five workers of an arms factory in western Serbia where seven of their colleagues died on Thursday have been placed under arrest. Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said today that the five persons, employed with Užice’s Prvi Partizan plant, have been detained because of suspicion that they committed grave acts against general safety when they “did not follow workplace safety measures”.

Serbian, RS MUP brass on gang arrests

Top officials of the Serbian and Republic of Srpska (RS) interior ministries (MUP) addressed a news conference in Belgrade today. Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that 25 suspects were arrested in Serbia and Bosnia yesterday, all believed to be members of an international criminal gang active in the region.

Dačić: Niš could become regional rescue center

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that he will be discussion with Russian officials the idea of Niš becoming a regional center for emergency situation actions. Dačić said that he will be talking with Russian Emergency Situations Minister Sergey Shoygu in October regarding the idea of Niš becoming a large regional center for emergency situations in this part of Europe.

Heroin dealer arrested in Novi Sad

Convict Đuro Dragović was arrested on Friday with a kilogram of heroin after being released for the weekend from prison. According to Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, Dragović was arrested in an action of the Service for the Fight Against Organized Crime and the Novi Sad police during an exchange of a kilogram of heroin with Savan Luburić and Goran Golić, both from Novi Sad.

“Mufti never asked for protection”

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that Mufti Adem Zilkić never asked for protection from the police, nor for a license to carry a weapon. Dačić said that Serbian police (MUP) will talk to the head of the Islamic Community of Serbia, after police officers in Belgrade yesterday found two pistols in his car during a routine search.

Socialists to abstain in Information Law vote

The ruling Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) has not changed its stance on not voting on the draft for changes to the Public Information Law on August 31. “SPS wants to turn a new page in its history, and there can be no new page if there is no new book,” party leader and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić told reports at the Belgrade city assembly on Tuesday.

Dačić: Draft for EULEX cooperation finished

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić confirmed that the draft for the protocol for cooperation between the Interior Ministry (MUP) and EULEX has been completed. He said that it is most important to preserve peace in Kosovo, because victims of conflicts in that region are usually Serbs.
