Dačić receives Best European award

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić received the Best European award for contributions made to politics. The award was given to Dačić at a ceremony held in the Belgrade assembly building.

U.S. official visits Belgrade

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg arrived in Belgrade in the evening on April 7 as part of his Balkan tour. The American official met this morning with First Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dačić.

Dačić: New license plates by end of year

The issuing of new drivers’ licenses and license plates will begin in the second half of the year, Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said. He called on citizens to have understanding and patience, because the ministry is working with all the resources it has and cannot increase the number of employees working on issuing these documents because of the effects of the economic crisis.

Dačić boasts about MUP, BIA contribution

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić says that more than five tons of cocaine were seized worldwide based on the information of Serbia’s MUP and BIA. This happened during the past year and a half, Dačić explained, and specified that it coincided with the tenure of the current government.

Police find buried stolen weapons

Serbian police (MUP) found stolen weapons buried in the woods close to a highway near Belgrade, Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said. Dačić said that four automatic rifles, two snipers and a machinegun rifle near the Ikarbus company factory grounds.

“Serbia leader in fighting organized crime”

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said on that Serbia was the regional leader in the fight against organized crime. He also stressed that without international cooperation there could be no successful suppression of that type of crime.

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić told Zagreb daily Jutarnji List that crime in the region is every regional country’s concern. Dačić sad that the fight against organized crime must be handled through united information and operative police cooperation.

Extent of Daimler scandal in Serbia unclear

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić stated that Serbian police (MUP) did not receive any official letter from Germany regarding their investigation against Daimler. “I have given an order to contact German police and find out what exactly this is about, because it concerns the period between 1998 and 2008,” the interior minister said.

MUP to investigate Subotić claims

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that the ministry will investigate all of the claims of Stanko Subotić, aka Cane, that the police deems interesting. Dačić said that there must be a clear line drawn on what falls into the jurisdiction of the ministry, and what relates to those who deal with privatization.

Arrests made for child pornography

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that police have arrested two people, one from Belgrade and one from Kikinda, for the possession of child pornography. In Kikinda, Laslo B. was arrested, while police officers detained Nikola M. in Belgrade. Both had large amounts of pornography on their computers, Dačić said.

Dačić talks visas with UK official

Britain will support Serbia’s EU accession, State Minister for Europe Chris Bryant has stated in talks with Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić. During the late Thursday meeting in London, Bryant and Dačić agreed that Serbia’s EU accession is important not only for Serbia but for Europe as well, due to the values the country will bring to the EU.

Vicar accused of embezzlement arrested in Greece

SPC Vicar Simeon Vilovski, suspected of embezzlement in the Raška-Prizren Eparchy has been arrested in Greece. This was confirmed today by Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said.

“Visa liberalization not jeopardized”

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić announced an investigation into the organized departure of Serbian citizens who sought political asylum in the EU countries. He said that in the first two months of this year, the EU countries had sent Serbia 478 requests for the return of individuals, and that positive responses had been given to 304 requests, while 156 had received a negative response, with 18 in process of investigation.

“No religious background to murder of policeman”

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić stated that the murder of police officer Željko Zečević did not have ethnic or religious background. Zečević was killed on March 3 in the village of Ribarići, in southwestern Serbia, by a Muslim man.

Minister sacks local police chief

The Serbian police (MUP) chief in the southern town of Vranje has been dismissed from office, reports said. The decision was made by Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, B92 has learned.

Dačić: Cooperation necessary to fight drug trafficking

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said in Tirana on Thursday that cooperation between region police is needed to prevent drug trafficking. “All reports, including the report of U.S. security services, say that the Balkans are a major transit area, and that almost 80 percent of all heroin which comes to Europe from Afghanistan crosses this territory,” Dačić said at the Annual Ministerial Conference on Cooperation in the Field of Border Security in Southeast Europe.

“Albanian asylum seekers will be sent back”

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that Serbia is dedicated to returning all its citizens that sought asylum in Belgium. He said that Serbia’s visa-free travel regime with the EU will not be jeopardized by Belgium’s objections to the growing number of persons from southern Serbia seeking asylum in that country.

Former Bosnian senior official “detained then released”

Former Bosnia-Herzegovina Presidency member Ejup Ganić, who the Serbian MUP has an arrest warrant out for, was detained and then released in London.

Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said that Ganić was released because of logistical reasons.

Media association asks ministry for help

The Association of Independence Electronic Media (ANEM) has asked for help in getting pirate radio and television stations closed. Interior Minister Ivica Daćič met with ANEM officials to discuss the problem media companies in Serbia are facing with the large increase in pirate stations.
