Energy minister reacts to Kolubara revelations

If politicians took part in abuses of state money at the Kolubara mines, then they should be held to account “politically and criminally”. This was the reaction of Energy Minister Petar Å kundrić to revelations that Serbia’s state-owned power company EPS determined that the Kolubara Coal Mine company management conducted “unscrupulous business practices”.

Outgoing Health Minister Tomica Milosavljević says that his resignation is not an attempt of G17 Plus leader Mlađan Dinkić to topple the government. “That certainly was not the reason for my resignation. Minister: Budget revenue to exceed plans

Serbian Finance Minister Diana Dragutinović said Friday that she expected the total budget revenue in 2011 to exceed earlier forecasts by about RSD 10bn.

“Based on these two months – December of last and January of this year – I can accurately predict the revenue in 2011,” she said, adding that she was almost certain it would be “at least RSD 10bn higher than planned.”

Health minister resigns for “personal reasons”

Serbian Health Minister Tomica Milosavljević has resigned, saying the decision came “for deeply personal reasons”.

Reporters who attended his news conference in Belgrade today were not allowed to ask any questions.

Justice minister on witness protection

Justice Minister Snežana Malović says an impartial and thorough Kosovo organ trafficking probe cannot be take place without offering full security to witnesses. “Witnesses have to be fully protected, all cases involving murder and threatening of witnesses have to be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible have to be sanctioned,” Malović said in an interview with the Banja Luka daily Glas Srpske.

Serbia gets new road company

Minister of Infrastructure Milutin Mrkonjić said on Wednesday that a motorway company called Koridori Srbije (Corridors of Serbia) had been established. It would be in charge of the construction of Corridor 10 and the highway from Belgrade to Montenegro, he explained.

Defense Minister Dragan Å utanovac stated late on Sunday that Serbia will soon sign a security agreement with the EU. It wold allow the country’s officers will be recruited into the EU peacekeeping missions for the first time in history, he told B92 in Belgrade.

Defense minister on weapons export

Serbian Defense Minister Dragan Å utanovac says that Serbia has exported weapons and military equipment worth USD 750mn since 2007.

He told daily Politika that the value of export had been USD 75mn in 2007 but that it had reached USD 247mn last year.

Finance minister requests EU stand on excise tax

Serbian Finance Minister Diana Dragutinović has asked the EU Delegation in Serbia to come out with an official stance on the amendments to the Excise Tax Law.

She asked whether the amendments to the Excise Tax Law violated the directives of the EU and Serbia’s Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA).

Singapore, Malaysia lead cuts in mobile roaming fees : Update

Southeast Asian ministers will study ways of lowering roaming mobile phone and text messaging charges across the region starting with Singapore and Malaysia, a minister said.

The neighbors will kick off with new telecommunications rates between their countries to be announced in two months, Rais Yatim, Malaysia’s minister of information, communications and culture told reporters in Kuala Lumpur. A letter of undertaking from Malaysian companies agreeing to the new roaming charges will be presented to Singapore next week, he said.

Justice minister on extradition of war crimes suspect

If Croatia does not request extradition of Tihomir Purda in the next ten days Serbia will, Serbian Justice Minister Snežana Malović told B92.

She said that documentation on Purda, who is suspected of war crimes against the Serbs in Vukovar, would be submitted to the Croatian judiciary today or tomorrow.

Minister for Kosovo Goran Bogdanović says the Turskish decision to release Yusuf Sonmez was a bad message to all those who had committed crimes. Sonmez is a surgeon suspected of involvement in illegal human organ trafficking in Kosovo.

Singapore earns $420m from two casinos in 7 months to Nov

Casino operators Las Vegas Sand (LVS.N) and Genting Singapore paid the Singapore government $420 million in levies and taxes in the seven months to end-November 2010, a cabinet minister said on Tuesday.

“While the IRs have brought in new revenues, collections from other gaming activities such as lotteries, horse and sports betting and fruit machines operated by clubs have fallen,” Second Minister for Finance Lim Hwee Hua told Parliament.
