Ministers to submit reports to PM

The Serbian cabinet ministers have until the end of the month to submit their quarterly reports to PM Mirko Cvetković. Belgrade daily Večernje Novosti writes that the written accounts, to be analyzed by Cvetković, will focus on the ministers’ work, and that those who hail from the Democratic Party (DS), will also report to the party leader and the country’s president, Boris Tadić.

Cvetković in Poland for WW2 commemorations

The PM will attend a ceremony in Gdansk commemorating the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of WW2 at the invitation of Polish PM Donald Tusk, the govt. says. At the event, Mirko Cvetković will have informal meetings with senior officials of other countries in attendance.

Serbian govt. strategy, “solid basis”

The government strategy is a good starting point in the talks with IMF, it was stated at the meeting of PM Mirko Cvetković and members of the European Council. The strategy includes “public spending reduction via rationalization and total reform of the public sector”, Tanjug reported.

Macedonia’s Gruevski meets with Cvetković

Serbian and Macedonian Prime Ministers Mirko Cvetković and Nikola Gruevski say that Western Balkan states on their way to the EU should work together. “Both countries have the same goal, which is accession to the EU, and both countries are investing every effort to that end,” Gruevski told a joint press conference after the meeting. He said that Serbia and Macedonia wanted to be part of a Europe without borders.

“We’ll be remembered for visa liberalization”

PM Mirko Cvetković believes that his cabinet “will be remembered” for the visa liberalization with the EU, something that is expected by the end of the year. “This government does not view reality through rose-tinted glasses and will not become complacent after the successes achieved so far, because we’re aware there’s much we haven’t done and that huge work lies ahead,” he told daily Večernje Novosti in an interview.

PM says Belgrade cheapest; daily claims otherwise

Belgrade is the priciest capital city in the region, writes daily Blic, and says it can refute PM Mirko Cvetković’s claim to the contrary. “Serbia’s market is fully supplied, while the prices of basic products are the lowest in Belgrade compared to Ljubljana, Zagreb, Sarajevo, Budapest, Podgorica, Bucharest and Sofia,” the premier was quoted as saying recently, as he marked his first year in office.

Serbia’s EU integration council meets

The government’s Council for European Integrations met in Belgrade on Friday. The council’s first session this year, presided over by PM Mirko Cvetković, called on the EU to accept Serbia’s efforts in implementing the Interim Agreement when it decides on the country’s future membership application.
