Singapore Exchange (SGX) (SGXL.SI) said it was on track to complete a $7.8 billion ($10.1 billion) takeover of Australian bourse operator ASX (ASX.AX) in 2011, but political obstacles to Asia-Pacific’s first major merger of exchanges remain a challenge.
The comments on Tuesday came after SGX missed expectations for its second-quarter profit on higher costs for technology and transactions linked to the bid for ASX.

CapitaLand (CATL.SI), Southeast Asia’s biggest property developer, reported a 43% fall in its third-quarter net profit on Friday — missing forecasts — due to lower rental from shopping malls.
CapitaLand, 39% owned by Singapore state investor Temasek (TEM.UL), earned $159.6 million in pre-exceptional net profit the three month ended September, down from $281.3 million a year ago.

OCBC (OCBC.SI), Singapore’s second-biggest lender, said Asia’s strong economies will underpin earnings growth this year, even though second-quarter profit slightly missed forecasts as staff costs surged.
Singapore banks are benefiting from the city-state’s best-ever economic expansion and reduced bad debt charges, but historically low interest rates are keeping interest rate margins under pressure.

Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp., the parent of Singapore’s biggest life insurer, said second-quarter profit rose 8%, less than analysts’ estimates, as trading earnings slumped and lending margins narrowed.
Net income climbed to $503 million in the three months to June 30, from $466 million a year earlier, helped by an 82% drop in bad-loan costs, the Singapore- based company bank said in a statement today. That was less than the $546.4 million average of eight estimates from analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.

Government of Singapore Investment Corp., manager of more than US$100 billion ($134 billion) of the city-state’s foreign reserves, reported losses from its investment in Manhattan’s largest residential enclave.
Tishman Speyer Properties LP and BlackRock Inc. said on Jan. 8 they missed a bond payment tied to their US$5.4 billion purchase of the 80-acre property, which includes Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village apartments.
