Serbian Church “destroying Montenegro”

The Montenegrin parliament speaker has accused the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) of “destroying the state of Montenegro”. The SPC is making this endeavor by means of putting up a tin church on top of Mt. Rumija, near the town of Bar, according to Rajko Krivokapić.

Montenegrin PM on private visit

Montenegro’s new Prime Minister Igor LukÅ¡ić had talks with the president and prime minister of Serbia Boris Tadić and Mirko Cvetković. This took place during his private visit to Belgrade on Thursday, Beta news agency reported.

Ex-paramilitary arrested in Montengro

The Serbian War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office stated on Monday that one of the suspects for the war crime in the village of ĆuÅ¡ka was arrested. Ranko Momić, a member of a paramilitary group called Å akali (Jackals), was arrested in Montenegro on suspicion that he took part in the murder of 44 ethnic Albanian civilians, said reports.

Church dignitary blasts “made-up language”

The top Serbian Orthodox Church bishop in Montenegro says that the Montenegrin language was “made up”, and condemned those who said they spoke it. Metropolitan Amfilohije made the statements in Podgorica last night, during the ceremonies to mark the Julian calendar New Year.

Montenegro’s PM “would like joint project”

Montenegro’s Prime Minister Igor LukÅ¡ić has stated that he would like to embark on a joint project with Serbia during his mandate. The project would “preferably something related to agriculture, tourism or infrastructure”, said reports.

“Fascist occupation of Kosovo continues”

Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral has stated that fascist occupation of the southern Serbian province continues to this day. He said that current situation in Kosovo “is actually the continuation of the Nazi-Fascist occupation from the WWII, and which is even more tragic, with longer-term consequences.”

Montenegrin PM on Serbian Church property

New Montenegrin Prime Minister Igor Lukšić has said that he would initiate a dialogue regarding assets of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) in Montenegro.
He said that, although he himself was not a believer, in his capacity as the prime minister, he would “help make some radical forms of highlighting the marginalized problem”.

Montenegro gets new government

Montenegro got its new government headed by Prime Minister Igor Lukšić on Wednesday.

The new government will have two deputy prime ministers and 15 ministries.

War crimes suspect arrested in Montenegro

War Crimes Prosecution has announced that Milojko Nikolić, suspected of participating in a war crime in Kosovo in 1999, was arrested in Montenegro.

It is suspected that Nikolić as a member of the “Jackals” unit took part in the killing of 44 Albanian civilians in the village of Ćuška near Peć.

Brother of Montenegro’s deputy PM arrested

Montenegrin police arrested Budva Mayor Rajko Kuljača, his deputy Dragan Marović and about ten more of their associates on Friday. Dragan Marović is the brother of Montenegrin Deputy Prime Minister Svetozar Marović, who resigned last week.

EU commissioner praises Đukanović

Outgoing Prime Minister Milo Đukanović successfully steered Montenegro toward the EU both before and after it declared independence. He also contributed to the country’s steady progress in the process of EU accession, assessed EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fule, the media in Podgorica reported Wednesday.

Montenegrin PM to step down?

Montenegro’s Prime Minister Milo Đukanović will resign next week, Podgorica-based daily Vijesti is reporting today. The article says that Đukanović’s ruling DPS party will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 21., when he is expected to announce his withdrawal from state offices.

Citizens evacuated from flooded areas

A state of emergency has been declared in the towns of Ljubovija, Prijepolje and Loznica due to flooding caused by overflowing of the Drina and Lim Rivers.

Road Prijepolje-Podgorica is closed and therefore road traffic between Serbia and Montenegro is disrupted.

Montenegrin PM: I’ll retire eventually

Montenegrin PM Milo Đukanović has stated that he will at some point step down from power and that he wants more free time for himself.

“However, I’m fully focused on doing responsible jobs and fulfilling Montenegro’s priorities now,” he told Belgrade-based daily Politika.

President Tadić visits Montenegro

Serbian President Boris Tadić and Montenegrin counterpart Filip Vujanović say the two countries have achieved significant results in fighting organized crime.
Vujanović told a joint news conference after the meeting that the agreement on extradition signed recently between the two countries shows their willingness to uncompromisingly crackdown on organized crime.

“Fugitive drug boss hiding in Montenegro”

Suspected drug lord Darko Å arić, who is currently on the run, is hiding in Pljevlja, northern Montenegro, Belgrade daily Blic writes. According to the report, Å arić – a Montenegrin with Serbian citizenship – is hiding close to his hometown, and is under the protection of “Montenegro’s authorities and mafia bosses”.

Drug arrests in Serbia, Montenegro, Italy

Four persons were arrested last night in Serbia on suspicion that they trafficked narcotics, acting as part of the Šarić gang.
Darko Šarić, a Montenegrin with a Serbian passport, is a fugitive from justice indicted in Serbia as the mastermind behind a failed attempt last year to smuggle over two tons of cocaine from South America to Europe.

“More arrests to come in cooperation with Montenegro”

Serbian Police Director Milorad Veljović has announced that new arrests will be made as a part of Serbia’s cooperation with Montenegro.

He told Podgorica-based TV Vijesti that cooperation between Montenegrin and Serbian police forces would be example of “the best cooperation”.
