Inflation “to stay high” in coming months

National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Governor Dejan Šoškić said on Wednesday that the inflation rate in Serbia will stay high in the next few months. At a news conference, Šoškić specified that year-to-year inflation should continue to grow in the first quarter, stay high in the second, and significantly drop in the second half of the year.

Danamon jumps most in 20 months on DBS speculation

PT Bank Danamon Indonesia rose the most in 20 months in Jakarta trading amid speculation DBS Group Holdings will buy a stake in the Indonesian lender, according to Teguh Hartanto, an analyst at PT Bahana Securities.

Danamon, owned by Singapore’s Temasek Holdings and Deutsche Bank AG, surged 11% to 5,950 rupiah at the 4 p.m. Jakarta time close, the steepest increase since May 19, 2009. The Jakarta Composite index gained 0.4%.

Singapore inflation rate may reach 5% in coming months, Ong says

Singapore’s inflation rate may reach 5% in coming months, central bank Deputy Managing Director Ong Chong Tee said.
 
The Singapore dollar’s appreciation is helping limit imported inflation and the currency’s trading band is providing flexibility to cope with capital inflows, Ong said at a conference in Hong Kong today.

Singapore earns $420m from two casinos in 7 months to Nov

Casino operators Las Vegas Sand (LVS.N) and Genting Singapore paid the Singapore government $420 million in levies and taxes in the seven months to end-November 2010, a cabinet minister said on Tuesday.

“While the IRs have brought in new revenues, collections from other gaming activities such as lotteries, horse and sports betting and fruit machines operated by clubs have fallen,” Second Minister for Finance Lim Hwee Hua told Parliament.

Tiger Air reports 32% rise in passengers in 12 months to December; load factor in December …

Tiger Airways has reported solid passenger volumes and load factors in December.

For the month of December, Tiger Air carried 555,000 passengers, a 22% increase compared to the same month last year. The average load factor across Asia and Australia for the month was 91%, an increase of 1 percentage point over December 2009.

Singapore industrial output rose at fastest pace in six months

Singapore’s industrial production rose at the fastest pace in six months as electronics and pharmaceutical manufacturers increased output to meet demand.

Manufacturing, which accounts for about a quarter of the economy, climbed 39.8% in November from a year earlier, after a revised 29.8% increase in October, the Economic Development Board said in a statement today. The median estimate of 14 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News was for a 32.8% gain.

Tiger Airways reports 34% increase in passengers in 12 months to November

Tiger Airways says it reported robust passenger volumes and load factors in November 2010, and further expansion of its fleet through lease extensions.

From December 2009 to November 2010, a total of 5.7 million passengers chose to fly with Tiger Airways, an increase of 34% over the 4.2 million passengers in the preceding 12 months. Average load factor for the 12-month period to November 2010 remained at 86%, an increase of 3 percentage points year-on-year.

Neste Singapore biodiesel plant fully up in 6 months

Finland’s top refiner Neste Oil (NES1V.HE) expects its renewable diesel plant in Singapore to reach full capacity in six months, its chief executive said.

“It is a big refinery and we want to proceed slowly and see how it works and see if there are any bottlenecks,” Matti Lievonen told Reuters in an interview on Friday.

“It will take probably six months before full capacity will be reached. We are scaling up from 70,000 tonnes to 800,000 tonnes (annually),” he said.

Asiatravel falls by most in six months as full-year profit drops

Shares of Asiatravel.com Holdings fell by most in six months after reporting a 71% drop in full-year net profit to $1.63 million even as revenue increased 16.8%.
 
The stock slumped 6.7% to 42 cents as of 9:10 a.m. in Singapore, headed for its biggest decline since May 7.

Tiger Air reports 39% rise in passengers for 12 months to Oct

From November 2009 to October 2010, a total of 5.6 million passengers chose to fly with Tiger Airways, an increase of 39% over the 4.0 million passengers in the preceding 12 months. Average load factor for the 12-month period to October 2010 was 86%, an increase of 3 percentage points year-on- year.

For the month of October 2010, Tiger Airways carried 455,000 passengers, an 8% increase compared to October 2009. The average load factor across both airlines in Asia and Australia for the month was at 87%.

Tony Davis, President and Group CEO of Tiger Airways Holdings, says, “We are pleased to report continued passenger growth for the Group in October. Having launched our biggest ever flying programme for the northern winter season, we look forward to further growth in the second half of the financial year. Tiger Airways Singapore has launched new services to Manila in the Philippines and to Trichy and Trivandrum in India, and Tiger Airways Australia has launched its new base at Avalon Airport, with new services complementing existing flights from Adelaide and Melbourne (Tullamarine). With new aircraft coming into the fleet, Tiger Airways Singapore will start services to Taipei in January 2011 and will continue to add frequencies to existing routes. Tiger Airways Australia will launch flights between Brisbane and Sydney in February 2011, allowing us to complete the coveted ‘Golden Triangle’ in Australia.”

SGX says securities trading highest in 17 months

Singapore Exchange (SGX) today said its securities daily average value (SDAV) reached a 17-month high in October while the FTSE Xinhua A50 Futures and Nikkei 225 Index Options experienced renewed investor interest.

Securities Market

  • The securities market was active with total market turnover at $45 billion for October, up 18% from September. October SDAV was $2.1 billion versus $1.8 billion in September, and the highest since May 2009.
  • Exchange traded fund turnover doubled to $953 million from September.

Derivatives and Commodities Markets

  • The derivatives market traded an average daily volume of 259,109, up 24% year on year.
  • The FTSE Xinhua ChinaA50 Index futures set its second straight record-high monthly volume with143,061 contracts traded (US$2.97 billion notional) and open interest of 21,102 contracts ( US$432 million notional). The contract drew global investors as it is the only offshore futures contract on the China A-share market.
  • The Nikkei 225 Index Options achieved volume of 183,734 contracts in October, six times the level of September and 34 times the level of a year earlier.
  • AsiaClear volume grew to 17,873 contracts in October from 7,399 a year earlier with significant growth in the number of energy swaps cleared.
  • Futures open interest increased 25% year on year to 712,635.
