Isis Calls It Quits

VENERABLE PROGRESSIVE METAL BAND ENDS

Isis

Isis issued the following statement yesterday:

Isis has reached an end. It’s hard to try to say it in any delicate way, and it is a truth that is best spoken plainly. This end isn’t something that occurred over night and it hasn’t been brought about by a single cataclysmic fracture in the band. Simply put, Isis has done everything we wanted to do, said everything we wanted to say. In the interest of preserving the love we have of this band, for each other, for the music made and for all the people who have continually supported us, it is time to bring it to a close. We’ve seen too many bands push past the point of a dignified death and we all promised one another early on in the life of the band that we would do our best to ensure Isis would never fall victim to that syndrome. We’ve had a much longer run than we ever expected we would and accomplished a great deal more than we ever imagined possible.

We never set any specific goals when the band was founded other than to make the music we wanted to hear and to play (and to stay true to that ideal), so everything else that has come along the long and winding path has been an absolute gift. As with any momentous life-changing decision (which this certainly is for the 5 of us), we feel a very dynamic range of emotions about this and cannot express all of it within the space of a few sentences, and perhaps it’s best to do what we’ve always done and let our music speak for us. It is and has been the truest expression of who we are as a collective and in some ways who we are as individuals for the 13 years in which we’ve been together.

The last and perhaps most important thing we might say in relation to all this is how grateful we are for the people that have supported us over the years. It is a lengthy list that would include those who put out our records, those that played on them and put them to tape, the many bands with whom we shared the stage, all of our family, friends and companions who supported us in our individual lives and thus made it possible for us to continue on in the band, and most importantly those who truly listened to our music whether in recorded form or by coming to out to our shows (or both). It is quite true that we would never have done what we have without those people, that is many of you who are reading this. Our words can never fully express what we feel, but we hope that our music and the efforts made to bring it into being can serve as a more proper expression of gratitude for this life and for everyone in it. Thank you.

In more immediate and practical terms the tour we are about to embark upon is indeed our last. We are hoping that these final live rituals can help us bring a close to the life of this band in a celebratory and reverent way, and also provide us with a chance to say goodbye to many of those that have supported us over the years. While there is a measure of sadness that comes with the passing of this band, we hope that the final days can be joyous ones during which any and all that wish to come and join us will do so. It seems fitting that the last show of the tour and of our active existence will take place in Montreal, the site of the very first Isis show in 1997 (though that was an unintentional move when booking the show initially). After the tour we also plan to follow through with other projects set in motion some time ago – pursuing the completion of a final EP, compiling live audio and visual material for future releases, and generally doing whatever we can to make our music available for as long as there are people who wish to hear it.

Thanks again to any and all,

Isis, May 18 2010

Ipecac Records founders Mike Patton and Greg Werckman issued the following statement:

“It has been a complete honor to be a part of the Isis team. Isis is a major part of our label’s foundation. Those 5 talented guys are our friends and we look forward to see and hear what they each do in the future.”

Isis’ final tour begins May 26 in San Diego. Full tour dates can be found here.

Deadmau5: Summer Tour

HOOKED AND UNHOOKED, CANADIAN RISING STAR LIGHTS UP SUMMER STAGES

Deadmau5

Deadmau5 has announced a North America Tour this summer. Consisting of over 20 dates, which launch May 29 at the Sasquatch Music Festival in Washington State, the electronic music producer and performer will tour his festival show featuring high-end production and a new LED-activated mau5head.

Along the tour route, Deadmau5 will also perform a few ‘Unhooked’ shows. “Deadmau5 unhooked will mean no massive stage and no LED mau5head,” he says. “There will still be some form of production, LED screen and lights and all that stuff…but at some shows it just won’t be possible to supply the LED head of the huge new stage because of travel and routing. That thing isn’t exactly portable!! On the upside, ‘Unhooked’ sets tend to be longer and more diverse.”

“Like a Lite-Brite with a short fuse, this electronic music performer’s onstage visuals pulsed, glowed, and had a giant crowd exploding in ecstasy with each ebb and flow of his music. It was a sight to see: a 15-foot tall cubic structure stood on its corner, as its sides projected a tangle of multi-colored dots, lines, and other form-shifting shapes. Huge screens in the background blasted even more visuals, and the man born Joel Thomas Zimmerman stood atop the structure in a mouse outfit that was equipped with lights,” wrote William Goodman at Spin.com.

“Mr. Mau5 is a headliner at global music festivals, and he’s evolved to live up to the billing by presenting an electrifying set of bombastic lights and razor-edged electro-house Friday night at Coachella. Deadmau5, in his signature mouse-ears costume, blasted the festival’s Sahara tent with sound and light like a radiologist zaps your bones,” wrote Dennis Romero at LAWEEKLY.com.

Lilith Fair: Full Tour Dates Adds Queen Latifah, Carly Simon

SARAH McLACHLAN HEADS UP A HUGE LINEUP OF FEMALE ARTISTS

Carly Simon and Queen Latifah are the latest additions to the Lilith Fair 2010 lineup. Simon will appear on three dates (Boston, Hartford and New York), and Latifah will appear on two dates (Detroit and Las Vegas). Additionally, the line-ups for the remaining 10 cities set to go on-sale over the next two weeks are now posted on LilithFair.com.

Lilith co-founders Terry McBride and Marty Diamond comment on the latest artist additions. Says McBride, “Carly Simon embodies the entire spirit of Lilith. She is a generational icon who continues to have a tremendous influence on so many women, whether musicians or fans. I can guess that many of the Lilith 2010 artists were impacted by her voice and words at some point. It’s truly an honor that she has come on board.” Adds Diamond, “Queen Latifah’s spirited performances on the original Lilith Fair are still some of the most memorable. She has had a remarkable career over the past 11 years, from music, to acting to now film production. She is a role model and inspiration to many, and we are thrilled that she is taking the time from her hectic schedule to rejoin the tour. “

Tickets are currently on-sale for 26 of the 36 markets. Boston and Hartford are the next to go on-sale this Saturday, May 8. There will be 11 artists on each date, with only two consistencies per show: the Lilith Local Talent Search Ourstage.com winner who starts the day and headliner Sarah McLachlan.

Marco Benevento: Video/Live Dates

SMALL TASTE OF NEW ALBUM, BUSY SPRING & SUMMER

Marco Benevento‘s new album, Between The Needles & Nightfall, hits stores next Tuesday, May 11, via his label Royal Potato Family/MRI. For a window into the recording process, check out footage from the album sessions at Trout Studios in Brooklyn, capturing the final of three days in the studio, where three additional songs were conceived in the last handful of hours.

“This is a record of tunes that essentially wrote themselves – whether at a soundcheck, or improvised in the studio, or behind the piano in the morning,” says Benevento. “Many of the most enjoyable listening moments are captured feelings of that immediate time, that nowness. The songs really seemed to write themselves amidst contemplation or frustration or inebriation or whatever that moment was rendering. Reed [Mathis], Andrew [Barr] and I improvised bridges on the spot, made songs from scratch and we pieced together song ideas that we’d messed around with on tour. We did all that in three days with the best real music capturist I know, Bryce Goggin.”

MGMT TO PERFORM “LIVE ON LETTERMAN;” AN EXCLUSIVE WEBCAST PERFORMANCE

FROM THE HISTORIC ED SULLIVAN THEATER; EVENT TAKES PLACE TUESDAY MAY 11

LETTERMAN

MGMT

The popular “Live on Letterman” music series returns with Brooklyn’s own MGMT, who will perform a “Live on Letterman” webcast concert from the Ed Sullivan Theater Tuesday, May 11, following the taping of the band’s performance on the LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN. During the concert, MGMT will be performing
songs from their recently released sophomore effort, Congratulations, and songs from their debut
album, Oracular Spectacular.

This CBS Interactive Music Group event will be promoted across and broadcast on several CBS assets, as the concert
will be streamed on the LATE SHOW website at CBS.com (www.cbs.com/late_night/late_show) that evening at approximately 8:00 p.m., ET/5:00 p.m., PT, with extensive coverage on-air and online provided by several CBS radio stations in major markets
across the country. Additionally, access to live and on-demand video of the concert will be available on CBS
properties including Last.fm, mp3.com, TV.com, etonline.com and theinsider.com, as well as the CBS Television

MGMT’s exclusive performance is the seventh time the Late Show has used the historic Ed Sullivan Theater as a
concert venue – Pearl Jam performed

part in 2007 and Paul McCartney
performed from atop the Ed Sullivan Theater marquee last year. In the past year, Tim McGraw, John Mayer and Mary J. Blige have all been featured on “Live on Letterman.”

Jamie Lidell: New Album/Live Band

JAMIE LIDELL UNVEILS HIS NEW LIVE BAND VIA VIDEO

FEATURES ALTERNATIVE VERSION OF NEW SONG “YOUR SWEET BOOM”

Jamie Lidell has released a
new video ahead of his album Compass out May 17, which not only unveils his new touring band
but also features a live, alternate take on “Your Sweet Boom,” a highlight of the record.

Check out the video here:

As Jamie himself puts it:

“New York City, 1968. Oh wait – 2010! A nostalgic glimpse into the now as 70s tech hangs with the laptop, Blazer hang with the bizarre and Lidell gets a buzz on about the future shows with an ALL NEW crew of heavy retro pioneers. Practicing here under the hot lights in a shoddily lit Westside cupboard, things are sounding unreal. The soundtrack to this is a lost recording of a new song called “your sweet boom”… never heard before and never to be heard again. 1,2 Zen explosion and we out!”

The new band is made up of Jake Aron (guitars/bass), Ludwig Persik (drums/perc) and Guillermo Brown (perc/rhythm, keys/synths). You can see them in the flesh on Jamie’s worldwide tour – dates below.

PUNCH BROTHERS’ NEW ALBUM ANTIFOGMATIC, PRODUCED BY JON BRION

OUT JUNE 15 ON NONESUCH / CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED QUINTET ON TOUR NOW

Punch Brothers

Punch Brothers return with
their second album, Antifogmatic, June 15 on Nonesuch. The record is the follow-up to the
band’s highly praised 2008 debut, Punch, which The New Yorker calls “…wide-ranging and
restlessly imaginative…” A special deluxe edition of the album will also be available. Included in this package is a
four song instrumental EP, All of This Is True, as well as a seven song DVD, Live from the Lower East
Side: It’s p-Bingo Night!
, which was filmed during the band’s residency at NYC’s The Living Room. Pre-orders
of both the standard and deluxe editions are available now at
www.nonesuch.com and
www.punchbrothers.com. The first 500 orders of the
deluxe edition will include an autographed official Punch Brothers cocktail recipe guide.

Punch Brothers’ lineup includes some of the most impressive and widely respected musicians performing today:
Chris Eldridge (guitar), Paul Kowert (bass), Noam Pikelny (banjo), Chris Thile
(mandolin and lead vocals), and Gabe Witcher (fiddle). The Boston Globe says of the band, “…this
top shelf acoustic quintet is a virtuosic revelation,” while the Chicago Tribune says “their breathtaking
virtuosity isn’t about soloing but complex ensemble unity, with a cumulative power that leaves the listener
pleasantly rung out.” The band will tour this spring and summer in support of the album, including stops at the
Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the Newport Folk Festival and the Mile High Music
Festival. Please see below for dates.

Produced by Jon Brion (Brad Mehldau, Of Montreal, Elliott Smith, Kanye
West
), Antifogmatic was recorded, mixed, and mastered at Ocean Way Studios in Hollywood during
the winter of 2009-2010. While Punch was focused around Thile’s four-movement composition “The Blind Leaving
the Blind”, Antifogmatic‘s 10 songs were written collaboratively by the band. Of the process, Witcher
explains, “We knew we needed a producer equally as well versed in pop and rock as in instrumental music, and I
don’t think there is anyone more able to capture and communicate the essence of this material than Jon Brion.”
