Mozilla will introduce a new version of Thunderbird, its open-source e-mail application, in mid-November. Built on the same rendering platform as Firefox 3.1, Thunderbird 3 will include features such as tabbed e-mail, filtered search and a one-click address book.

REVIEW: SeaMonkey Retains Mozilla Look and Feel While Incorporating Firefox 3.5 Performance

The free SeaMonkey suite is very similar to the old Mozilla software while keeping the underlying technology up-to-date. The new SeaMonkey 2.0, for example, adds the capabilities of Firefox 3.5′s underlying browsing engine while maintaining the old Mozilla look and feel. eWEEK Labs’ tests show that SeaMonkey 2.0 takes some getting used to but has some compelling features, especially for organizations that want an all-in-one Internet suite.

Mozilla’s Mitchell Baker and Mike Shaver both lamented Google’s release of Chrome Frame in blog posts. The browser experts, who helped Mozilla’s Firefox browser reach 23.8 percent market share largely at the expense of Microsoft IE, are concerned Chrome Frame will further muddy the already cloudy waters of a fragmented browser market.
