A recent report commissioned by Citrix Online and compiled by Telework Research Network sheds light on the benefits U.S. businesses and employees could gain from adopting virtual work policies, including reduced stress, increased productivity, better work and life balance, and reduced absenteeism. According to the report, an estimated $400 billion can be saved by U.S. businesses that employ a half-time workshifting policy. For participating employees, the report noted, the commuting time they save adds up to an extra two to three weeks of free time a year. Kate Lister, principal researcher at Telework Research Network and author of "Undress for Success-The Naked Truth About Making Money at Home," has put together the following presentation on 10 myths about virtual work edited by eWEEK’s IT Management and Careers writer Don Sears. Microsoft Seeks to Refute Top 10 Exchange Storage Myths
Let’s face it: Microsoft Exchange, while being a staple of enterprise IT systems around the world since 1993, has a reputation of being a beast to handle. In fact, eWEEK has quoted a few IT managers using that exact term and worse when describing their experiences with the venerable e-mail storage system. To its credit, Microsoft has made a number of changes in the latest version, Exchange 2010. The company claims that it is now much easier to use and maintain, works with less-expensive second-tier storage options, and can deploy larger mailboxes (100K items versus 20K in Exchange 2007). Exchange team members have collected a list of the most common Exchange myths along with their rebuttal to these claims. We present them here in this 10-point eWEEK slide show, which is based on a March 29 Exchange blog item and published here with permission. While working to dispel some of the myths that have evidently become attached to outsourcing, he also noted arguments about off-shoring being ultimately bad for the U.S. economy. A combination of anemic business spending and possible anti-offshoring government policies could put pressure on traditional offshoring destinations such as India.
– Outsourcing as a practice remains strong, Larry Quinlan, CIO
of professional-services provider Deloitte LLP, asserted during a keynote
address at last week’s Global Sourcing Forum and Expo in New York City. Despite
his pro-outsourcing bent, however, Quinlan also acknowledged the arguments of
