Jimmy Herring Tour Dates

TOUR KICKS OFF THIS WEDNESDAY IN NORFOLK, CT

Jimmy Herring

Jimmy Herring is hittting
the road with his current line-up, featuring Herring on guitar, drummer Jeff Sipe (Aquarium Rescue Unit,
Jazz is Dead, Shawn Lane), keyboardist Matt Slocum (Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks), and Neal
Fountain
on bass (Col Bruce Hampton, Alex Machacek). Tour dates are below.

The Jimmy Herring Band will be performing a wide range of material, including compositions from Herring’s long-
awaited and much-acclaimed 2008 solo debut Lifeboat.

wanted to play- Led Zeppelin, Beatles, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Frank Zappa among others. Hopefully there will be
enough freedom for everyone to relax and have equal creative input. One thing I learned from Bruce Hampton is,
the simpler the music, the easier it is to reinterpret it each time you play it.”

Herring, who toured this summer with drummer Lenny White (Miles Davis, Return To Forever) will be one
of the
headliners at the New Universe Music Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina on November 20-21 as well as performing

Yale plans liberal arts college as Singapore taps brand name

Yale University is considering setting up a liberal arts college under a proposal by the National University of Singapore as the Southeast Asian nation seeks to benefit from the US school’s brand name.

Expenses to establish and operate the proposed Yale-NUS College will be borne by NUS and Singapore’s government at no cost to Yale, the New Haven, Connecticut-based university said in a statement on its website. The two sides signed a non- binding memorandum of understanding on Sept. 10 for the college, which is intended to open by the fall of 2013 and accommodate about 1,000 undergraduate students initially, it said yesterday.

The Hold Steady New Album Heaven Is Whenever 5/4

The Hold Steady’s Heaven Is Whenever Set For Release May 4

The Hold Steady

The Hold Steady, lauded for the scope, depth, truth and heart they bring to chronicling the American rock myth, recently put the finishing touches on Heaven Is Whenever, their new album set for release May 4 on Vagrant Records. The album was produced by Dean Baltulonis, who engineered the band’s Almost Killed Me and produced Separation Sunday, and was recorded at Dreamland Recording Studios in Upstate NY and Wild Arctic Studios in Queens, NY, with mixing also happening at Wild Arctic.

Singer Craig Finn says Heaven Is Whenever is about “embracing suffering and understanding its place in a joyful life. The lyrics speak a lot about struggle and reward.” Piano and keys take a backseat to guitar on the new record, which also gets production help from guitarist Tad Kubler. “I really believe the album exposes new elements of the band that we hinted at on other records but weren’t able to fully realize until this one,” says Kubler. “Rather than just concentrate on changes in the instrumentation, we made changes to the song writing process.”

Recorded in several smaller sessions spread out over a long period of time, the songs on Heaven Is Whenever received the benefit of being tested on the band’s recent tours. There was also a makeshift recording booth set up on the back of their tour bus so songs and musical ideas could be documented as they developed. As Finn says this allowed them to “see what was working and what wasn’t. I believe this record benefits from us working at a more deliberate pace.”

Following the release of 2008′s critically acclaimed Stay Positive, which gave the band its highest Billboard chart position to date, The Hold Steady toured relentlessly, playing to some of their biggest audiences to date.

The Hold Steady is: Craig Finn, Tad Kubler, Galen Polivka, Bobby Drake

Railroad Earth Tour w/ New Bassist Feb/March

Railroad Earth Tour With New Bassist February and March

Railroad Earth

Railroad Earth is considered everything from jam-grass to bluegrass, to Americana to a jazz influenced string band. The original five members of Railroad Earth are welcoming new bassist Andrew Altman from Georgia. Having played in the Codetalkers and Blueground Undergrass, Altman isn’t a stranger to the “Hobo Scene.”

The Codetalkers opened up for Railroad Earth a few years ago in North Carolina. When Altman heard that Johnny Grubb had departed from Railroad Earth and auditions were being held a month later, he traveled up to the Garden State and met with the Railroad Earth family and had a killer audition, landing him the spot. With the new bass player, Railroad Earth is working on a new CD and has announced a number of tour dates for February and March.
