Big Head Blues Club: 100 Years of Robert Johnson

ALBUM RELEASE MARCH 1, 2011 TO BE SUPPORTED BY NATIONAL TOUR:
“BLUES AT THE CROSSROADS: THE ROBERT JOHNSON CENTENNIAL CONCERTS”

100 Years of Robert Johnson

How do you throw a 100th birthday bash for the most influential bluesman that ever lived? If you’re Big Head Todd and The Monsters, you
gather some of the greatest living blues musicians and record 100 Years of Robert Johnson
(March 1, 2011 – Ryko/Big Records), a stirring new tribute album featuring 10 potent interpretations of some of the
most vital and durable music of the past century.

Big Head Blues Club, as the ad hoc ensemble is calling itself, features, in addition to the Colorado-based
quartet—guitarist and vocalist Todd Park Mohr, bassist Rob Squires, drummer Brian
Nevin
and keyboardist Jeremy Lawton—special guests, blues legends B.B. King, Hubert Sumlin, David “Honeyboy” Edwards and Charlie Musselwhite, as well as keepers
of the blues flame Ruthie Foster, Cedric Burnside, and Lightnin’
Malcolm.

Recorded at the legendary Ardent Studios in Memphis, and produced by Grammy award winning blues producer
Chris Goldsmith (Blind Boys of Alabama), 100 Years of Robert Johnson will be released in early
2011, and supported by a national tour (“Blues at the Crossroads: The Robert Johnson Centennial Concerts”)

Pat Metheny: New Album, Tour

PAT METHENY’S ORCHESTRION TO BE RELEASED JANUARY 26, 2010
2010 U.S. TOUR DATES ADDED

Pat Metheny

Seventeen-time Grammy Award-winner Pat Metheny once again explores new territory with his forthcoming project, Orchestrion. Following the album’s January 26, 2010 release on Nonesuch Records (February 9 on vinyl), the genre-shattering guitarist/composer will embark on an extensive solo tour, performing in arts centers and concert halls nationwide.

Orchestrion brings a musical idea from the late 19th and early 20th centuries — a large mechanical multi-instrument device that utilizes actual orchestral instruments of various types, called an “orchestrion” — to the technologies of today. Metheny’s concept includes a large ensemble of acoustic instruments — including several pianos, drum kit, marimbas, “guitar-bots,” dozens of percussion instruments, and even cabinets of carefully tuned bottles. Through Metheny’s guitar and compositional mind, five new original pieces showcase the instruments as they are struck, plucked, and otherwise played via the technology of solenoid switches and pneumatics. Metheny worked for months with a brilliant team of scientists and engineers to develop and assemble the New Orchestrion for this project.

“As the instruments started to trickle in from the various inventors,” Metheny says, “the experience of writing for them and figuring out what might be possible with them provided a self-imposed challenge that proved to be difficult and time-consuming, but absolutely exhilarating. I am excited to share this project. If nothing else, this has turned out to be something unique. And in the process of developing all this music and these instruments and discovering what they can do and what they are good at, I learned so much. It feels like progress and has gotten some notes out of me that I didn’t know were there. But the surprise was just how far I was able to go with it all. Within this new environment, I found something in there that took me to some new places.”

A limited-edition poster signed by Metheny is available now with Orchestrion CD or LP pre-orders, exclusively at the Nonesuch site to the first 500 customers. As always, CDs and LPs ordered from the Nonesuch Store include audiophile-quality (320 kbps) MP3s at no additional cost, available for download on release day.

Over the course of more than three decades Metheny has set himself apart from the jazz mainstream, expanding and blurring boundaries and musical styles. His record-setting body of work includes seventeen Grammy Awards in twelve separate categories; a series of influential trio recordings; award winning solo albums; scores for hit Hollywood motion pictures; and collaborations and duets with major artists such as Ornette Coleman, Steve Reich, Charlie Haden, Brad Mehldau, and many others. His band, the Pat Metheny Group, founded in 1977, is the only ensemble in history to win Grammys for seven consecutive releases.

Ray LaMontagne Fall Tour: Symphony Orchestra & Solo

RAY LAMONTAGNE ANNOUNCES FALL TOUR SCHEDULE

Shows With Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, As Well As Solo Acoustic Performances

Ray LaMontagne

Ray LaMontagne announced his North American fall tour schedule today, starting with two dates with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra on October 15 in North Bethesda, MD followed by an October 16 show at Meyeroff Symphony Hall. Following the orchestra shows, LaMontagne’s next dates will offer a polar opposite experience in which the Maine singer-songwriter will play stripped-down solo acoustic shows, starting November 1 at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre.

LaMontagne is also working with Tickets-for-Charity® to offer fans a unique opportunity to buy front row seats while supporting leading charities. A portion of each package purchased on www.TicketsforCharity.com will automatically benefit The National Children’s Cancer Society plus up to three partner charities of the fan’s choice. LaMontagne is proud to be collaborating with this charitable platform to provide fans with an easy way to access prime concert seats while supporting the causes they care about in the process.

This will not be the first time LaMontagne has played accompanied by an orchestra; he recently appeared in front of a sold-out crowd earlier in July at the Hollywood Bowl with the Bowl’s Orchestra.

The tour marks LaMontagne’s third tour in North America in support of his top 5 album Gossip In The Grain. Along the way he has also done a tour of the biggest shows on TV including Saturday Night Live, The Late Show With David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, Late Night with Conan O’Brien and most recently The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson. While in L.A. for the Hollywood Bowl, LaMontagne stopped by KCRW’s highly influential “Morning Becomes Eclectic” where he performed and chatted.
