Singapore December PMI eases to 50.7 vs 51.4 November

Singapore’s December manufacturing PMI was down 0.7 points to 50.7 vs November’s 51.4; but the figure still reflects expansion and is unlikely to hurt 4Q GDP numbers.

The electronics PMI reported a second straight month of expansion, though the reading eased to 52.2 in December vs 53.2 in November. A reading above 50 in the PMI data indicates growth in manufacturing activity, while a reading below 50 indicates contraction.

Singapore Nov visitor arrivals rise 16.1% from a year ago

Visitor arrivals to Singapore in November rose 16.1% from a year earlier to 963,000, the highest figure ever recorded for the month of November, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said on Thursday.

The number was, however, lower than October’s 978,000 visitors as well as the record 1.1 million achieved in July.

Singapore’s inflation accelerated to 22-month high in November

Singapore’s inflation rate rose to the highest level since January 2009, an acceleration that may put pressure on the central bank to allow further currency appreciation to curb price increases.

The consumer price index climbed 3.8% in November from a year earlier, after gaining 3.5% in October, Singapore’s Department of Statistics said in a statement today. That matched the median estimate of 14 economists surveyed by Bloomberg News. Prices rose 0.3% from October, without adjusting for seasonal factors.

SIA down on fewer passengers, cargo in Nov

Shares of Singapore Airlines <SIAL.SI>, the world’s second-biggest carrier by market value, fell as much as 1.6% this morning after it said it filled less space available on its planes for passengers and cargo in November, traders said.

The airline’s overall load factor in November was 70.1%, lower than the 71.1% recorded in October, and November 2009′s 72.3%.

Tiger Airways reports 34% increase in passengers in 12 months to November

Tiger Airways says it reported robust passenger volumes and load factors in November 2010, and further expansion of its fleet through lease extensions.

From December 2009 to November 2010, a total of 5.7 million passengers chose to fly with Tiger Airways, an increase of 34% over the 4.2 million passengers in the preceding 12 months. Average load factor for the 12-month period to November 2010 remained at 86%, an increase of 3 percentage points year-on-year.

STI at new November low, off 1.4%; 3,119 support

Singapore shares on track to end down given Asia-wide weakness, lower US stock futures. News of gunfire exchange between both Koreas closely monitored, although some traders say impact on market sentiment limited for now.

“I think the market is more concerned about tightening in China than with the fire exchanges between the two Koreas,” says dealer at foreign brokerage.

STI off 1.4% at 3,147.33, breaching previous November low of 3,150 set earlier this month, with support now expected at 3,119 (Oct. 29 trough). Market breadth at 5 decliners for every gainer vs tad more than 4 to 1 at end of morning trade.

Key decliners among blue chips include Keppel Corp. (BN4.SG), off 3.3% at $10.68, SembMarine (S51.SG), off 3.0% at $4.92, CityDev (C09.SG), off 2.9% at $12.22.

Bonerama: Northeast Residency Tour

TOUR KICKS OFF TOMORROW IN NEWMARKET, NH

After a whirlwind month-long Northeast residency last October, Bonerama is at it again this year.
This year’s tour will include three weekly residency stops. Friday nights, Bonerama will hold court once again at
Sullivan Hall in the Village in New York City. On Saturday November 13 and November 20, the band will return to the
North Star Bar in Philadelphia for the first time since December of 2007. Sunday nights, catch Bonerama at the New
Orleans funk-friendly capital of Baltimore, MD, The 8×10.

Drummer Terence
Higgins
(Dirty Dozen Brass Band) will join the band on all November dates. Adam “Shmeeans”
Smirnoff
(Lettuce, Robert Randolph) will be welcomed to the stage on the
first weekend residency stops. Members of Morphine and Jeremy Lyons aka (Ever
Expanding)
Elastic Waste Band will open the New York City show on November 5. Guitarist Cris

(The Bridge) will join the Bones for the November 14th Baltimore show.

To open the final four dates of the tour, Bonerama welcomes their Boston-based friends and co-conspirators Nate
Wilson Group. This up and coming super-group features members of Assembly of Dust and Percy Hill.
