“NATO expansion creates divisions”

Russian Ambassador to Serbia Aleksandr Konuzin has stated that there is no reason for NATO’s further expansion because it will create new divisions.

“Expansion policy of NATO, which represents not only a political but also a military alliance, creates new lines of division and it’s a question of security for us,” he told Novi Sad-based daily Dnevnik.

Teacher arrested for child pornography

A 42-year-old history teacher from Novi Sad has been arrested for possession and publication of child pornography recordings. The Serbian police said that the man is suspected of uploading and downloading a large number of photographs and audio and video recordings from the internet, that were made when children and minors were abused for pornography.

Serbia has 75 registered political parties

Serbia now has 75 registered political parties, 42 of those set up by the country’s ethnic minorities, statistics show. 21 have headquarters in Belgrade, nine in Novi Sad, eight in Novi Pazaar, and six in the town of Subotica.

Man arrested for murder of elderly couple

Serbia’s police (MUP) announced that they had a suspect under arrest in the double murder case committed in Novi Sad last week. The suspect is Novi Sad resident Aleksandar Slankamenac.

Elderly couple found dead

An elderly couple was found dead in their family home in a Novi Sad neighborhood on Saturday, police in that town north of Belgrade have confirmed. They were identified as 80-year-old Rozalija P. and 77 year-old Jozef D.

Human and Minority Rights Minister Svetozar Čiplić has accused Mufti Muamer Zukorlić of radicalizing situation in Sandžak.

The Special Court in Belgrade today found the accused killers of Novi Sad police officer Vladimir Grandić guilty. Danijel Tomić received 20 years in prison, Slavko Ristić 8 years, and Nenad Matić five.

President urges start of Kosovo talks

Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) Bishop Irinej says he is against any equating of the German Nazi crimes with those committed by communists in former Yugoslavia. “Without justifying any execution without a trial, we cannot put an equation sign between that kind of terror and the Holocaust,” the SPC dignitary told the Holocaust Seminar at the Assembly of Vojvodina in Novi Sad.

Officers of the Serbian police (MUP) have safely removed a hand grenade placed on a window of a house in Novi Sad. Unknown perpetrators placed the M75 hand grenade on the window after 15:00 on Thursday, said local police.

Minister of Economy Mlađan Dinkić stated that a part of the funds obtained through the privatization of the Telekom Srbija should repay unfavorable loans. The remainder should be invested into capital and infrastructure projects, he told a Novi Sad based Hungarian language daily.

Vojvodina to open office in Brussels

Vojvodina will open its office in Brussels in the beginning of next year, earlier than originally planned. Agreement on this was reached Friday in Novi Sad by Vojvodina provincial government head Bojan Pajtić and Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić.

The deputy speaker of the European Parliament (EP), Laszlo Tokes says EP representatives will monitor the transfer of jurisdiction from Serbia to Vojvodina.

Serbia’s EU bid and state of media

European Parliament Rapporteur for Serbia Jelko Kacin in Novi Sad on Friday attended the founding session of the Danube Media network (DaMe). He said that fostering closer ties between Serbia and the European Union is being realized through respect of the freedom of the media and their cooperation, among other things.

Vojvodina and Bavaria intensify cooperation

Cooperation and establishing of institutional ties within the Danube strategy were discussed by high officials of Vojvodina and Bavaria. The Bavarian delegation, headed by Bavarian State Minister for Federal and European Affairs Emilia Mueller, conferred with AP (Autonomous Province) Vojvodina Assembly Speaker Sandor Egreši, President of the AP Vojvodina Government Bojan Pajtić, Novi Sad Mayor Igor Pavličić and others.
