Tech companies such as Facebook, Apple and Google asked their job applicants some very odd and revealing questions, according to IT careers expert Glassdoor.com. – Despite an economy still struggling to lift itself from the
ashes of a long-term global recession, recruiters expect a rise in
technology-job hiring activity in 2011, particularly in areas such as project
managers, developers and business analysts.
Accompanying with that rise is an uptick in job…

Austrian press: Odd timing of Marty’s report
Austrian press says Germany has been calling Kosovo PM Hashim Thaci “head of the mafia†for ten years but that world powers do not want to put him on trial.
The Austrian newspapers also write about the “odd timing†to publish the information on human organ trade in Kosovo, “placed by the Quint countries ambassadors”.
Betting on science: Odd and ends
Some bookmakers will take bets on anything—even the nature of reality
FOR those who enjoy the occasional wager, but know more about quark-gluon plasmas and minimal supersymmetry than they do about thoroughbreds or penalty shootouts, the Large Hadron Collider (see article) provides an ideal opportunity to pit their wits against those of the bookmakers. Backing the favourite—the detection by the LHC of a Higgs boson, an elusive object hypothesised to give mass to other particles—gets odds of 11/10 from William Hill, a British bookmaker, as long as it happens before the end of 2012 (which is odd, as the LHC is scheduled to be closed for the whole of that year). Those who think that deadline will not be met can place their own bets at 6/4 on.
For many physicists, the LHC is the most important experiment on Earth. For Paddy Power, a bookmaker based in Dublin, its activities fall into the “novelty betting” category. Alongside taking bets on conjectures such as when Facebook will attract its billionth user and the chances of Nick Clegg being made David Cameron’s new baby’s godfather, the firm also has a book on what the LHC will discover this year. As is its standard practice, Paddy Power recruited experts in the field and fed their thoughts into a computer model to generate the initial odds. Weight of money wagered then provides the fine-tuning. …
Dosh To Release Tommy 4/13
DOSH SET TO RELEASE FIFTH ALBUM, TOMMY, APRIL 13
Dosh |
On April 13 Dosh (Martin Dosh) will release his fifth album on Anticon Records, titled Tommy.
In setting out to create this album Dosh had two goals in mind. First: Get loose. 2008′s Wolves & Wishes took a step in this direction by way of its guests – freewheelers like Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Odd Nosdam – but Dosh records are well-known for their impeccable arrangements. So much so that Andrew Bird used Wolves‘ “First Impossible” as the rhythmic backbone for a song on last year’s critically acclaimed Noble Beast LP.
Dosh’s second goal seemed to be in direct conflict with the first: To conceive yet thicker terrain for his already seething soundscapes. More drums. More vocals. And new to the Dosh catalog, lots of low end. Against all odds, Tommy skirts critical mass but stays organic, is never overwrought, and miraculously avoids becoming cluttered. Instead, this unique brand of maximalist, rhythm-driven post-rock sweeps lilting beauty, serious beats and even airy moments into its comely whirlwind.
